In Theaters August 1

In his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award®-nominated blockbuster The Help, Tate Taylor directs 42's Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get on Up. Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Boseman is joined in the drama by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.

Academy Award® winner Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, 8 Mile) produces for Imagine Entertainment, with Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman (Shine a Light) producing under their Jagged Films banner. Imagine's Erica Huggins (Flightplan) also serves as a producer on Get on Up, while Taylor produces under his Wyolah Films label. Peter Afterman, Trish Hofmann, Jez Butterworth, John Butterworth, John Norris and Anna Culp serve as executive producers.

This guy may not look like James but he brings his energy. I meet Bobby Byrd in 1999, and went to his funeral at New Birth church in Georgia, Bobby co wrote get up, if you look at the record his name is on it, Bobby said James would not pay him and broke a lot of  their hearts in the late 90's, not giving Maco, Bryd, Fred their due and money.

My husband & I saw it yesterday! It truly is a "must-see!" The music alone is worth the price of admission. I did all I could to keep from jumping up and dancing in the movie! And Chad Boseman was ah-mazing as James Brown!

An incredible cast of actors, mainly up and coming, minus veterans Jill Scott, Dan Ackroyd and Craig Robinson. However, Get On Up's main sour point is that there was too much flashing back and forth between scenes and timelines to ever connect or sympathize with any on screen characters. The movie's 1st half hour randomly cuts through different eras in a scrambled motion. Nice effort but its not touching Ray by s long shot!
