If anyone is wondering how to do this with other application like google chrome or VScode you have to go to usr/share/applications and find a file named APPLICATION-NAME.desktop. then intead of firefox in the fields Name, exec, icon put the name of the file and remember to remove the .desktop at the end. If your having trouble remember to go to properties then click permission and check the check box that says "allow executing file as program". If your still having trouble try right clicking the program and clicking "Allow Launching" . Hope this helps if your having problems

Worked amazing, thank you so much - I do love Linux but this really should be much easier, can't imagine it's that hard to implement a create shortcut or send to desktop button in the UI, especially for friendlier distros like ubuntu.

The only way to open my jar file (which is the only way to open my app) was through a long command. This helped SO much!! Thank you!

1:34 WHY THE FUG IS THAT NOT AVAILABLE IN LINUX? :D Can we raise some money for the world's Linux developers to give us SEND TO DESKTOP CREATE SHORTCUT? Or is it an ideology that is against sending a shortcut to a desktop? Maybe it is easier to do it Linux way? I mean why would you go through all that trouble of RIGHTCLICKING when you can go through a 5-minute long process each time you want to create a shortcut. 100% LOGICAL

This is literally why apple and microsoft rule.

Nobody wants to build the wheel for everything they want in their os.

Meanwhile in linux, even trying to ask questions to learn linux, will go wrong because noobs dont know the question to ask.

Plus many linux people would rather argue than help.nExcept this guy.

Just one question, how does someone who is new to Linux learn these little tweaks without watching YouTube tutorial or learning from other people off of the internet?

I agree with most comments. Linux just sux. I can get stuff done in windows that takes hours changing permissions updating file permissions. And I was brought on UNIX. So like one comment said you need to know the answer in order to ask the question.
