This was over 10 years ago, but I still think about this veteran and hist story all the time. I wish I knew more about him, but I’m lucky I got to meet him all those years ago.

What a cool story! My great grandpa was a turret gunner in a B-17, got shot down over China, parachuted out, and was rescued by the Chinese underground.

You should have set up an interview.
I wish I had interviewed my grandpa.
He was a paratrooper on D-Day and got injured in France and then later went to Korea. Wish I knew more.

Once I was 5-6 I went to a legion dinner with my family a old dude in uniform came up to us and was chatting then he asked me if I wanted "a knuckle sandwich" I, not knowing what he meant just nodded and he proceeded to remove his two prosthetic fingers and offered them to me

He Listens to and Re-tells the Stories of Veterans . And He does it with Respect for Them .
Your Parents should be Proud of You .
If You ask most people under 30 years old what a B 17 is, they will probably say its a Vitamin .

WWII vets are a different breed, they seem to be a lot more open about their experiences during their service than Vietnam Vets, maybe it's due to public perception of the war at the time or having an additional 20+ years to process their experiences. Recently while volunteering at a Veteran's Home a WWII vet started telling me about shooting at Japanese planes during the war, I didn't ask about his experiences he just wanted to share. He was the only resident to talk about what they did.

😮this is so awesome. And the end adds just a twinge of relatableness to it. I love it! ❤

I was stationed in Hanau, Germany. Ran into an WW II vet. I told him I was stationed in Germany and asked where in Germany. I told him Hanau. Saw him go into deep thought. He stated to me Hanau, on the Main River near Frankfurt. I said yes sir. He replied that he had bombed Hanau during WW II.

I have a ww2 vet story for you. In the early 90's I was a young man stationed on the island of Okinawa. An old Okinawan man approached me. He asked if I was a Marine and I answered yes. He gave me a big smile. He explained that he has been conscripted by the Japanese and made to fight the Marines. He called us tough SOBs and shook my hand. I had no idea what to say! I shook his hand back and told him I was glad he made it. Very strange encounter but also very cool!

My Great Uncle was a pilot, and ended up having to fly an extended mission with active bombs, his bomber was attacked by German luftwaffe and there were bullet holes just inches from the bombs and his landing gear was damaged, some howhe managed to safely land the plane back in the UK before flying her for the rest of the war. 🙂

"They said they couldn't afford to have me fly anymore."

Gotta love that vet humor.

You should listen to a history heavy metal band called sabaton! There songs are about battles like WW1 and WW2, it is really good!

You should start something where you either tell more of these stories or bring veterans on the channel to tell us these story’s.

Besides my father fighting in Okinawa my biggest honor was meeting a survivor of the Bataan death March.
Actually got chills meeting him
