Thank you for putting this together! Honest, this is still my fav race in the whole series:
- Takumi’s first real scare on a new course
- No spectators
- All-out performance from both drivers
- Usui’s weird and intense rhythm
- Historically important representation of women in the 90’s Togue scene
- The Sileighty being as weird and cool of a car as it is

Also even if mako offering her virginity for the opportunity to race was goofy af writing, It inadvertently added some intimacy to the race in terms of the race being privately planned, semi-spontaneous, overtly more hazardous with no chance for warm ups.

The aura of this race for it’s entire length really is “Drifting into pitch black down endless turns
Behind someone taking all risks because they believe this will be their last”

And Lost into the Night is the perfect song to accompany that.

‘We can’t... we chose a monster as our opponent...’ that line gave me the shivers. Takumi really is a beast behind the wheel... first time racing in Usui and really showed Mako and Sayuki what a real drift is

This will forever be my favorite race in the first stage. Such a damn awesome battle between 2 great drivers (and one co-driver). And the soundtrack for this race was also so damn good.

Thanks for the memories, though there was still too much cuts. Damn those songs were the best of the series, and C121 was the best drift too, even the animator gave us 3 angles when they Initiate the drift !
Starts the race with *Elisa - Lost into the Night*, climax at the C121 turn with *Victoria - Stay*, recover from the mental breakdown and go full power with *Tension - Everybody's Warming* and end the race after avoiding crashing into Mako & Sayuki while they perform *Jee-bee - Wings of Fire* in Japanese !

The best scene starts from 6:50 ! Can't stop watching.

this is amazingly well written and directed, I love it so much. Showing us the thoughts of the main character's opponents, how they are intimidated by the MC's abilities, and how they believe they might be out of their league. And just look at the moment, 8:57, the music and the camera angle on the 86, the bright headlights just inches away behind, windshield completely obscured, takumi gone (so as to dehumanize the opponent perceived by mako and sayuki), just this intimidating almost robotic monster of a race car putting this insane pressure from behind. So so good

Stage 1-3 CG's are absolutely gold. It actually looks really fast when they race, not like on the later stages where 100+kph looks like 30kph only

2:13 is my favourite bit of this race, if only because it's so goofy.
Takumi hits the obstacle, and while the Sileighty avoids it and makes a smooth turn through the S-bend, Takumi's Eight-Six wobbles like it's trying to shake off the fact it hit something 😂🤣

Man i cant believe they made this back in 90's and early 20' . Their 3D CGI is old fashioned but i didnt feel iritated or cringed out. It just realy polished, compare to nowday anime CGI
