They can't tell that they need to wait 8 more days until spring. I guess that's one of the reasons the Aborigines had 6 seasons for the SEQLD region, mainly based on the way the plants flowered, or the birds sang, or the trees fruited, or certain animals returned to the area, or the direction the wind blew.
One season I remember is the flowering of the Wattle Trees coincides with the northern migration of the Tailor (fish).

They live next door on the footpath. There's heaps of plovers around and I reckon there's more nowadays than when I grew up in the 60's.

They are not a true plover. They are actually Masked Lapwings, found in the northern and eastern parts of Australia, as well as PNG and NZ. And they are bloody annoying when they swoop.

We have tall birds standing in the street yelling in florida too. Australia acts like theyre special.
