Hey man, Got here looking at various mx88, mx61 videos.. Looking to buy one for gigs which I could carry. I'm a piano player myself. I'm comfortable on an 88keys rather than a 61 key keyboard. But I'm really worried about how to carry a 14kg heavy instrument to places. I'm lean, definitely not a weight lifter. Since you got one, how do you carry one to gigs? And what safety precautions you take to protect the instrument while carrying? Is it better to get a hard case or soft case... with wheels makes it a bit easier I guess. Or should I go for mx61 as it is light weighted around 4kg which is easier to transport.. I'm confused. It would mean a lot if you could help me out. Thanks for your time. Felt happy for you in the video. God bless 🙏🏼

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...ew... yes I said the P word For decades I have chosen Yamaha because I rely on the quality and I've never had a problem...Well until I got an MX88. I feel the same way about Tascam. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems these days everything is being made so cheaply. The tech is there but the hardware has gotten cheaper every decade. ANYWAY... I got my MX88 last June specifically to tackle a project I had planned for a year. Having previously had a few Motif's I'm familiar with what the MX has and for that...no surprises. The action is good, but I also have a P255 and these actions are supposed to be the same, but they are not. It's all about the feel. ANYWAY...right out of the box after getting everything setup to start the project I noticed a crackling noise every time I turned the MX on. Consistently on every power on with first note/chord strike. All on attack of the note. BUT... after a few notes it would subside. Knowing now... I should have immediately returned it, but anxious to get the project going I made the exception since the noise consistently seemed to subside upon playing. It was like it just needed to warm up. Fast forward to project completion. After weeks of practice and many out takes I had a track I was happy with. BUT as I began to listen more carefully readying for mixdown I began to notice there were STILL crackles within the track. Be they ever so subtle... they were there, all on the strike/attack of the note Because this noise is specific to the strike/attack of the note I was able to work around it by playing a little less aggressively and was eventually able to get a keeper track. However some crackling was still there. I performed a number of tests to ensure it wasn't another piece of equipment or a bad cable and found unanimously my MX has a problem. So yesterday I boxed it up and sent it to the nearest service center and it should be interesting to see what they find. So that said... has anyone else noticed this dilemma?

Two weeks ago... Update, , , After four weeks of trying to get update information from Pro AV on status of my MX, A rep named Robert at Yamaha got involved...or so I thought... and supposedly contacted the service center in SF, Pro AV, who never did return any of my requests for updates or status. Then low and behold without any advance notice my MX showed up at my door a week later No note...no nothing from anyone So...now I continue to request some sort of documentation as to what was done in the repair of my keyboard to Pro AV AND Robert at Yamaha. I've given up on Pro AV but continue to send requests to Yamaha, and they continue to ignore me. This is just the most pathetic display of behavior I have ever experienced. I have lost all faith in Yamaha over this...very sad issue Bottom line so far...so far... the MX is working fine. I don't understand why no one will tell me what was done to fix the problem... UNACCEPTABLE Shame on you Robert at Yamaha

The final chapter...After the past few weeks of back & forth with Robert at Yamaha, he finally replied back stating he had made contact with Pro AV. regarding validation to the repair of my MX obviously because they didn't offer squat Although unable to provide any paperwork to validate, he SAID that THEY said it was determined the problem was the DM processor board. However...due to COVID stock issues, the DM/Main board was not available. So, they did a Hard Reset (procedure only able to be done by a servicer, found within the MX Service Manual) which seemed to solve the issue. Well OKAY... I guess??? If I never have another problem with my MX I'll be okay with that...BUT...big BUT... this entire issue got completely out of control, from the complete lack of contact from an AUTHORIZED Yamaha service center, to the lack luster, and frankly very poor follow up from the Yamaha representative. I have been a life long supporter of Yamaha products... I even owned a few of their motorcycles years ago. But sometimes something can happen that is so unacceptable it can make a person completely drop all support of a manufacturer. Regrettably... I feel this is that time for me. I continually tried to advise and warn Yamaha of this unprofessional behavior by this service center, but nothing was done. Yeah... I got my MX back...Yeah it works fine... so far ... but I will never go thru this again, at least NOT with Yamaha So BUYER BEWARE... it is now apparent that the MX may have a faulty DM board. Maybe I'm just the lucky one...maybe NOT, but this entire experience was rotten from day one and Yamaha was smack in the middle of it There's an old saying that goes... You're only as strong as your weakest link...[Pro AV]. So to Yamaha... you really dropped the ball on this one Very...Very disappointing One final word of advice... if you're still considering buying one of these MX's...GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY You'll probably thank me later!

Nice playing. I use the MX88 and the little brother MX61 out professionally. I use them primarily as live performance keyboards. But I have also used them in the studio. Great, awesome sounds. Motif XS engine. FM plus AWM sound engines. How could you go wrong! I l also use the Roland DS88 but it doesn't compare with the MX88 -- especially the acoustic pianos. Add to it, the grand piano feel of the key bed and you will not find a more versatile keyboard synth at this price. The Roland DS88 has a just okay piano feel. I only wish there were more of a piano selection in the MX's. The Roland DS88 has sample pads which I like that Yamaha doesn't. Our band does all 80's dance music and the Yamaha MX and Motif has lots of great 80's & DX recreations. DX's, Synth brass, Synth strings, and a whole host of awesome bass synth settings which I'm sure you are now aware of.
