Marrying an ice bish
3:08 Lol I misspoke. He said, "Something that happened years ago, " not "last year." She did not make 10 babies in 1 year.

Moral of the story, never tell your wife that she reminds you of another woman or she abandons you and your 10 kids

"My wife's a bloodthirsty snow woman."

*glances up at the sky* "That's rough, buddy."

Minokichi: "You're as cold as ice! You're willing to sacrifice our love."
Oyuki: "You never take advice. Some day you'll pay the price."

Minokichi met Oyuki, made love, made 10 kids, all within a year? That's impressive.

I remember a tale I read a while back about a man who also unknowingly married a Yuki Onna. He liked to take hot baths, but his wife always refused to bathe in hot water. One day, he prepared a bath and convinced her to try it. She melted and died, as she was made of snow.
Moral of the story? Dunno, don't take long baths I guess.

So you're telling me because he told his wife who basically was the same Yuki onna that killed his master it's still counted and she just upped and left him with their ten children? Damn Japan why you like tragic stories with harsh lesson so much?

"her name Oyuki"
foreshadowing so subtle it gave me a blackeye

So she fell for him so bad that she not only spared his life TWICE, but also stalked him for many years until finally mustering up the courage to appear before him in human disguise and luring him into marrying her. She then proceeded to have 10 CHILDREN with him and when he broke her trust she was heartbroken as heck and left.

THIS IS ANIME MATERIAL

Sexy or tragic?

Japan: Both of course. Makes for better... material.

Btw. I like this one. The guy was punished for his oversight, but not straight up killed, basically confirming that she did have at least some feelings for him. It went as well as such a Yokai-story can possibly go.

Were the 10 children ever blessed with cold resistance or something? I feel like there would be stories about half snow demon babies having some form of abilities/blessings. Like someone's really resilient to the cold, or survived hypothermia, or got lost in a blizzard but ended up fine, so people speculate they're part Yuki Onna

I've seen an exhibition about the similarities between Yuki Onna and the Russian Snyegurochka. Distant people share similar ideas.

Wait a minute.
He didn't technically tell anyone else though. He just told the same Yokai who was there.
Granted he didn't know, he still didn't tell anyone who wasn't at the shack that night.

So I'm learning Japanese and I have a few books filled with Japanese literature in order to learn how to read. One of the books is filled with Japanese folklore and early 20th century short stories. Urashima Taro and Yuki Onna are in that book.

Thank you for helping me realize my Japanese studies are going well.

I can't imagine loving a walking icicle. Even the thought of it makes me shiver!
I'm pretty sure a Kitsune would be more cuddly...

Yuki Onna as a yokai was really popular for Japanese culture. So much that we see some of their influence in our every day life. Anime is always a good one. Some movies reference snow woman but of different culture. Beauty certainly is a force to be recon with so much so that every man must be careful of his own instinctual peepee. Am I right?

For all of those men with a very hot rod for sure.

So she just through the responsibility for the children on him and left...

That is a punishment way worse than death!

Imagine the kids on their teen years and they talk back at their dad. Imagine Yuki-Onna's response.

This story left way too many unanswered questions to include any sort of morals. Why did Yuki want to kill the old man in the first place? Had the old man wronged her, perhaps murdered her? Was the boy just in the way and she was originally going to kill him to eliminate a witness? Did he figure out she was the same ghost that night by the lantern? Was he subtly confronting her? If so why did she get so upset? He wasn't telling anyone who didn't already know, and by now he knew that there was more to her character than just a murderous ghost.
