Christ, this scene could break the heart of a statue. Two brothers who couldn’t express the love they felt toward each other, decades of it left unsaid-expressed now in a few words, the last they’ll ever say to each other as it turned out. And the look on Sam Elliott’s face-a lifetime of dysfunctional love shown right there. Elliott should have won the Oscar just for this expression because damn if both Cooper and he didn’t make you FEEL it with as few words as possible. Bravo

Yeah when Sam backed up his truck and was teary eyed, that tore me up. Had to pause the movie, as I was sobbing. Both from the movie and what the scene reminded me of.

this is the best scene in the movie. so fucking heartbreaking, two men who don’t know how to express their feelings, because of an absent father. but the youngest says his older brother (the surrogate father) taught him everything he needed to know

people make fun of coopers character and say they cant understand what he is saying but don't understand that for his character to tell his brother how much he loves him and looked up to him shows they don't understand how hard it is to show your true emotion and for this character it was very hard to express his emotions which is why he was choked up.

This scene was so brilliantly acted by Elloitt and Cooper. Cooper gave his emotions room to breathe which added additional emotional tension while the character struggled to gather his throughts. Being a surperb actor, Elliott's reaction is master class, but it never happened if not captured by the director's perfect shot placement. Film making as an art seems to be lost on many, but this scene would be a great lession for film school students how a rookie dirctor was able to put such a great film together.
