I can't wait for the Roman Emperor to convert to Shinto when he has a mental break.

Can't wait to take Haesteinn adventuring all the way to Hokkaido and turn the Ainu into a new Viking culture raiding all the way down to the Spice Islands.

Love the art for China it's cleary meant to look like the Song dynasty (960 - 1279) emperor and empress ceremonial attire. SO excited for China and asia can't wait to be the emperor of the middle kingdom

It's definitely exciting, but there's a ton that could go wrong, and the possibility of systems interacting very, very poorly is high. I entirely agree that this seems to be a pretty obvious marketing thing. Not bad, it is fun - but right? Where is trade? The Church? The meat and potatoes of not only CKII, but the medieval world in general. Maybe that's our Eurocentric view, but also - It's Crusader Kings!!! That's the market!!!

I feel like they kinda had to add the East Asia dlc before any talk about trade content and merchant republics just because one of the major aspects of trading in the Medieval world revolved around the Silk Road and trading eastward with China.
Now that things are set, I'm sure the devs can implement trade mechanics more easily that can get full use out of the soon to be completed map.
Furthermore, a dlc on East Asia is sure to massively boost sales especially in China where ck3 is already such a popular game.
This can only be beneficial for the development of future DLCs (fingers crossed Trading, Religion and for the love of god do something with India).

It's almost confirmed that Republics will come in chapter five. I am betting that comes with a trade rework. It makes sense to expand the map before introducing these additions as China will matter with it. That is how I'm justifying this expansion, as I'm with you that it's not what I want.

The start dates of CK3 make for interesting times in the east: 867 is right about when the Tang started falling apart, 1066 is China divided between North & South. and 1178 is a three-state era. There's no start date that puts you at the top and stable as China. Frankly, I'm far more excited about Indonesia & SE Asia.

12:50 To be honest, I might be European but I love Chinese history and philosophy quite a lot, and am so thrilled that it will now be officialy reflected in CK3 (barely ever play without AEP on)

I have been hoping for China since the map has been "torn" off. I was expecting it because of the hints. But I did not expect the rest of Asia?? Korea, Japan, INDONESIA... the scope of this is insane! Really deserves the name All under heaven.

Just to let you know, the devs said that there won’t be any changes to the Magyar migration in this dlc. They said this in the replies to the dev diary teasing the nomadic expansion last month on the forums. Quite bummer, but maybe we can influence them to reconsider that before it releases.

It's wild to have a medieval Europe game without the Mongols. It's wild to have Mongols without the advanced empire they conquered and leveraged for other conquests. Just generally, the world was always interconnected, and a game without East Asia in this period is just incomplete.

Or to put it differently, based on your later discussion: how can you have anyone resembling historicity in terms of, say, trade, when you don't have the entire half continent where they produced most of the stuff that people crossed the world trying to trade for?

Now, for all that: sure, you could go CK2 and have an "off map" China entity... But that was always a little janky in both mechanics and balance, to the extent that if it was introduced in CK3 it would just feel like it was a placeholder for eventually map expansion. It's also just not a great look to tell a huge percentage of the world's population that they can be represented off-map.

And, finally, I'm a bit surprised to hear that the dynamic and exciting history of a huge chunk of the world's population for hundreds of years is just not interesting to you. I, for one, can't wait to play in East Asia! And if it's a gap in your knowledge, maybe treat this as an opportunity to finally expand that knowledge!

Yo! This is off-topic from the video, but I’m a playwright, and a couple years ago I mentioned that I had an idea for a Shakespearean-metered play based loosely on your CK3 roleplay series in Aquitaine. Well, it’s done! The plot is now quite heavily different from the story of your play through, but it is a five-act metered play about a duchess named Elize and her four bastard brothers. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to send you the full first draft of The Brothers of Elize! I’m submitting it to a few different theaters for potential staged readings.

I feel like these years have been for establishing a solid skeleton for future muscles of the game.

I want trade, more religion flavor etc., but it makes sense that they would first want to first establish China before trade because with that comes Silk road and maybe trade could be already part of China update since silk road was mentioned.

I think about it like this, because first came "tours and tournaments, " which completely breathed new life into the game and was also setup for future "roads to power(RTP)"/admin. Now they can use systems from RTP for the Steppe dlc with yurts n stuff.

Just like "Legends of the dead" will probably be used for the trade flow.

I mean I agree that a lot of systems from ck2 should have been in ck3 from the start, but they were quite mediocre in ck2 and would have been mediocre here.

But now that we have these frameworks for future content that have "potential"(that hopefully won't be wasted) to flesh out and explore these systems more than they could have ever been explored if they were here from the start poorly and half bakedly forced on a ck2 skeleton with "3D makeup"

Also this game is probably gonna be kept alive longer than ck2 so these are just the first years of the development

As much as I like the idea of having Asia within the game, I’m still concerned about the performance issues that may plague the game. I also worry that the devs are overstretching themselves and that the Asian expansion will turn their attention away from developing important systems such as republics, possibly religion reworks etc. Ready to eat my words though and bow down to daddy paradox

Nice to see paradox reigning in the new Chinese century with this dlc

25:00 japan is probably going to stay feudal. The shogunate will be empire tier title and the emperor will be a playable the head of faith of shintoism, existing as a local landless entity and able to usurp the empire tier through a struggle mechanic.

With South East Asia being added i hope we are going to get a Statless Society government type as seen historically in Zomia and in gameplay wise in EU4.

I think devs mentioned in reddit before that they know and have trade in high priority but that they had to release some foundational pieces first i think silk road is that. Like you pointed out they use and improve mechanics as they go like with the nomads using the estate core. This way the silk road and china won't just be something mentioned in an event with a modifier boost to importing silk or some shit now they're actually in the game and, hopefully, the starting mechanics of trades, religion, and republics are higher having learned and improve upon all these other mechanics
