According to Wikia Raiden was born in the early 1980s, the Liberian civil war lasted till late 1990s, now assuming Raiden got back to the states after he got done being a child soldier and all it's very plausible that he eventually came across Parappa the rapper since it was released during the same time frame, so "Your music saved me" isn't that unlikely since it could have helped him deal with PTSD from the Liberian civil war.
