Aspergillosis is a fungal infection of usually the lungs,[2] caused by the genus Aspergillus, a common mould that is breathed in frequently from the air around, but does not usually affect most people.[3][4] It generally occurs in people with lung diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis or tuberculosis, or those who have had a stem cell or organ transplant, and those who cannot fight infection because of medications they take such as steroids and some cancer treatments.[2][5] Rarely, it can affect skin.[5][6]

Aspergillosis occurs in humans, birds and other animals. Aspergillosis occurs in chronic or acute forms which are clinically very distinct. Most cases of acute aspergillosis occur in people with severely compromised immune systems, e.g. those undergoing bone marrow transplantation.[7] Chronic colonization or infection can cause complications in people with underlying respiratory illnesses, such as asthma,[8] cystic fibrosis,[9] sarcoidosis,[10] tuberculosis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.[11] Most commonly, aspergillosis occurs in the form of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA), aspergilloma, or allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA).[12] Some forms are intertwined; for example ABPA and simple aspergilloma can progress to CPA.

Other, noninvasive manifestations include fungal sinusitis (both allergic in nature and with established fungal balls), otomycosis (ear infection), keratitis (eye infection), and onychomycosis (nail infection). In most instances, these are less severe, and curable with effective antifungal treatment.

The most frequently identified pathogens are Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus flavus, ubiquitous organisms capable of living under extensive environmental stress. Most people are thought to inhale thousands of Aspergillus spores daily but without effect due to an efficient immune response. Taken together, the major chronic, invasive, and allergic forms of aspergillosis account for around 600,000 deaths annually worldwide.[10][13][14][15][16]

March 2023, i had covid, which turned into double phenomena, but i didn't go to the doctor until September of 2023. I was coughing up noodle like phlegm. Colors ranged from green, yellow, brown, and grey/black. When i got admitted to the hospital in September 2023, they thought I had terberculosis. I refused a biopsy but was on antibiotics and steroids for about 3 months. Again, I kept refusing the biopsy. I just took one finally in August 2024. But around December, my doctors let my try the antifungal medication because i didnt want a biopsy. Took that until April. Was improving now after the CT scans still showed half the size of the previous fungal ball. Again I mentioned August i finally did the biopsy to confirm it was indeed aspergillus im back on the meds. But that was a year from September 23 to current 2024. I was sick in march, so im not sure how long I've been infected, but it sucks and gets treated sooner rather than later because it does hurt, and it can spread.

What tests can you get for this? I live in a house with a lot of mold coming through the walls, floorboards, etc. The landlord won’t do anything. I feel like a truck is parked on my chest and can’t breathe well.

As mentioned Aspergillus can grow on ground spices, but also it can arrive onto store shelves with much of it already in it.
Cheep ground spices like Curry that was made to start with moldy sun dried with intermittent on & off rain and dried over & over again, with bird poop contribution - so what can one expect from it ?
Then finally ground into Curry powder selling cheep with price to pay in health.
Good premium quality Curry powder is made from drying in rotating hot oven drums immediately ground even while still hot then packed in air tight containers or now days vacuum packed, made in a paste - and this is THE CURRY for Kings or Rajas kitchen.
Actually it is faster, less labour intensive process. This is DELICIOUS & smells of Heaven !
Cheep ground sun dried spices contain many kind of molds including Aspergillus fungus, Criptococus Neoforma from birds droppings & much more . Many people get allergic reaction to it or get quite sick.
