When she said they were still going 10 knots, I dont think she was lying. So the appropriate thing for ATC to say would be “sorry for the confusion, ” and move the F on!

Great response from the AF crew. It's not so easy to find the words to reply in a foreign language when you're confronted to such condescending remarks (that are always aimed at foreign airlines pilots, probably because the controller knows he has language advantage). And if I were that controller, I would quit and do something else less stressful before dying from cardiac arrest. Him getting all grumpy and rude whenever something happens clearly shows that just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Don't blame her at all. As an Aussie working the E3 thing in the US the phraseology is a joke. I once heard JFk pull the "Keep it rolling" without giving a clearance to a Turkish plane and they did the right thing and stopped on the holding point. The controller then got all pissy and had a fit.

I live in Texas, and every time I go to New York I feel the need to sharpen up my passive aggressive skills. Fine for regular stuff. Absolutely unacceptable for air traffic control. Far too often and it has to be investigated.

Yeah im not calling the tower for that. Write a report, keep the tapes, and then we see what happens. Yes, she asked in a wrong manner. Was it necessary to make it such a big issue, NO.

JFK controllers always very aggressive. In any case that is not improving safety. Also very often they use their american slang instead of ICAO standard phraseology and they think it's appropriate to treat pilot like little kids at school when pilots ask confirmation.
