The Dutch ICT think tank EPN (recently merged with ECP.nl to ECP-EPN) has produced this short movie, clearifying the Web 3.0 concept. Which possibilities and implications for society does this next phase of the web induce?

The EPN foundation sets the agenda and approaches web 3.0 from various points of view and draws attention to it's implications for society.

Found this video by accident. But it is interesting to find out the definition of web 3.0 14 years ago. It has nothing to do with blockchain, decentralization and digital ownership. This is IT. Nothing is certain.

In short web 3.0 is... internet as we know it that can be found, used and accessed anywhere, anytime on any kind of device. Everything is connected with eachother. And that it adapts to users search preferences.

The internet becomes more personalized. I find that rather concerning.

This was a good look into the history of internet landscape speculation. A lot of these predictions have come to pass, with the broad exception of the Semantic Web.

However, we never declared ourselves in Web 3.0, and the term stuck around. In 2022, the Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Community claimed the term Web 3.0, and now their vision of the future is Web 3.0. Maybe they should call it Web 4.0?

Of course this was made in 2008, but when she says that computers are no where close to humans in terms of intelligence, in 2011 we learned of IBM's Watson on Jeopardy. That could potentially be the computer animated with the devil horns in the video.

I'm against Web 3.0 idea of catering to user's personal tastes. In that way people won't be able to discover something totally different from their usual tastes. In other words, how can you find something new if you're not encuraged to discover it? New technologies should help the human race to make a progress. This one will take us a step backwards. We will be disconnected from each other even more. Everyone will live in their own personalized world of opinions and content. Web 3.0 should stand for diversity, not for the cult of your own personal space.
