People thought it would be something more special to retrieve the boat than to launch the boat. So, here is the retrieval as a follow up to that launch.
We thought about the retrieval almost as much as the launch, but the retrieval was very easy for the R1T. We learned a few things each time, but the retrieval was convenient, safe, and allowed other boaters to get off the lake during a storm. Props to the Rivian Engineering team.
A couple notes:
- We had more experience this time from the launch, but this was our first retrieval. We were safer than the launch, and communicated more.
- Notice how the wheels were still above the water most the time, or barely covered, before we pulled the boat out. We learned that for our equipment (vehicle, boat, trailer) we need the wheels to be covered by about 2 inches to make it easier to get the boat on to the trailer. We can make it easier on ourselves next time. The wheels about 34" in diameter, so we need about 36" to launch and retrieve the boat using they particular set up.
- We wanted the boat to float for 3-4 feet of driving while we gained a little momentum before the weight of the boat began pressing down on the trailer. That would help to ensure the weight of the boat didn't prohibit the vehicle from initially moving forward.
- As stated before, storms in this area come up quickly. We were able to get off the lake while other boats were driving to a marina.
- When at the marina, you'd have to bob in the stormy water for your turn to get your boat out. My friend hit a rock and bent his prop just trying to get IN to the marina.
- Again, we were safer this time...and we'll be even safer nexts time.
- Good videography showing backing up further to make it easy to get the boat on (props to Kim).
- No animal or plant life was harmed during this filming.
