Osprey Meridian | Product Review | Luggage Backpack With Wheels and Daypack (2 Bags in One)

In this video we go over the Osprey Meridian travel bag. This is a suitcase style bag that has wheels and also can convert into a backpack. This bag is carry on size with tons of functionality so you will be able to take it on the plane with you. The bag is made of thick materials that seem like they would hold up well to travel. It also has large high clearance wheels that allow it ti roll over many different surfaces with ease. The bag has a retractable handle with two positions to wheel it around. You can move it around this way or you can convert it into a backpack by opening the back pouch and pulling out backpack and a hip strap. The bag has a nice curve to it so it fits your back nicely. The large hip strap also can take a lot of the weight so it is much more comfortable to carry. The bag also has nice comfortable carry handles on the side and top. Lots of pockets on the outside allow for convenience as well as a large central area similar to most suitcase designs. On the front of the bag you have another large pocket with organizational room and a padded laptop pocket. This front area also has the awesome feature that it can completely separate and become a daypack in its self when you get to where you are going!

Overall we think this is one of the best carry on suitcases we have seen. It offers so much functionality and has plenty of space for a few weeks on the road. This functionality does come at the drawback to some space that you would see in a similar size suitcase, but we would still recommend it.

This is the old model. I am currently using the new model, travelling Europe. Not in love with it yet. (though there are some positives- the wheels are good for cobbles etc and the handles are comfy for carrying up stairs/onto trains etc). The new model daypack is small capacity but a plus is that being so shallow it fits in bus racks and under plane seat. Has a light frame- it's comfy to wear It doesn't zip on to the main bag now, but clips on (sometimes). It doesn't fit neatly, there's a clumsy gap between the two bags and if you pack the the main bag fully, eg actuallyuse the top flap storage pockets, won't clip on at all. The main bag is so heavy its not useful for 'travelling light with only cabin luggage' on any flight that restricts weight (ie most of them)- half the weight allowance is taken up by the bag. (So I check it in for flights). As mentioned it has less capacity than normal cabin size bag'. It's awkward to pack, the internal pockets/ top pockets look good when empty, but anything you put in them takes away from the main storage area. Neither bag is waterproof Good thing the wheels and handles are good or I'd have replaced it with a lightweight cabin / slightly large bag in the first weeks of using it. But I keep giving it 'another week' cos it cost so much.

Unfortunately Osprey removed the waist belt from this model in 2018. Disappointing because the weight remains on the shoulders instead of putting it on the hips. Osprey instead of improving took away the advantage of this bag.

Great looking pack. I like the features it has to offer. This would be a good travel bag for full timers who are limited on storage space in the RV so that you would have to have 2 separate bags (c/o travel and hiking/day). It is a little on the heavy side empty and its very pricey. I think I would have to wait until it came down in price before I could consider it.

I just wanted to point out that the 2017 version of the Meridian no longer has a hip belt. It's such a shame as I'm desperately looking for a quality convertible carry on with a hip belt.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!

It's very nice bag, but is the zipp safe? Like does it open by pen ?

It's a nice bag and I enjoyed hearing about its features, but it weighs 8.37lbs EMPTY -- that's much too heavy for European or Asian carry-on limits, which are usually 8kg/18lbs or less!

Is it light and can you fit everything you need for a carry-on only bag?

Looking for something like this but 25/30 (ish) liters. I travel light and this is way too big for me. Lots of backpacks with wheels at that size, but none with suitcase style opening....
