With a background in ancient DNA and environmental DNA, Mike will describe how DNA sequencing technologies are being used for a variety of applications from archaeology to marine reserve planning.

Here in NZ, the EPA has embarked on a new community science initiative Wai Tūwhera o te Taiao (Open Waters Aotearoa) that explores the species present in water samples that communities collect.

The aim of the program is to build bridges between people and nature and develop alternative ways of identifying biodiversity and protecting it.
