Das Kompetenzzentrum für Information und politische Beratung rund um die Arktis am Alfred-Wegener-Institut feiert in diesem Jahr sein Jubiläum.
Die Arktis als Hotspot des Klimawandels ist in den letzten Jahren ins Zentrum geopolitischer und wirtschaftlicher Interessen gerückt. Was in der Arktis passiert, bleibt nicht dort – Veränderungen in den Gebieten rund um den Nordpol sind weltweit zu spüren. Auch auf politischer und wirtschaftlicher Ebene: Das zurückgehende Eis legt bisher unbekannte Zugänge für Tourismus, Handel und zu Rohstoffen frei, die neue geopolitische und geostrategische Fragen, Handlungs- und Kooperationsbedarfe aufbringen. Das Deutsche Arktisbüro unterstützt Akteure dabei, Antworten hierfür zu finden und den Austausch zwischen Grundlagenforschung und entscheidungstragender Politik zu verstärken. In diesem Jahr feiert das Büro sein 5-Jähriges Bestehen. Wir gratulieren!
The Competence Center for information and policy advice on the Arctic at the Alfred Wegener Institute celebrates its anniversary this year.
As a hotspot of climate change, the Arctic has become the focus of geopolitical and economic interests in recent years. What happens in the Arctic does not stay there - changes in the areas around the North Pole are felt worldwide. Also on a political and economic level: the retreating ice exposes previously unknown access points for tourism, trade and to raw materials, raising new geopolitical and geostrategic questions, needs for action and cooperation. The German Arctic Office supports actors in finding answers to these questions and in strengthening the exchange between basic research and decision-making policy. This year, the office celebrates its 5th anniversary. Congratulations!
