My mothers family was Sami Finnish. I grew up in Minnesota where many Finnish and Swedish people live. We had a large family and met every Saturday to sauna at my grandparent home...I love my heritage and their culture. We are a very spiritual people, reserved and mind our own business. Mom said, you can always tell a Fin, but you can't tell them anything. Mom had red hair, green eyes and a temper to match... I'm blonde green eyed and I also have quite the temper. LOL

It's a little different to call the landscape Lapland than to call someone Lapp, to call someone Lapp is considered derogatory, but I haven't heard the same about the landscape.
But if you're going to try not to be racist, Eskimo is not a completely clean term either.

Different parts of Fennoscandia were colonized at different times, the Sami moved into the northern parts and the Germanic peoples and the Finns into the southern.

As it seems, the people lived without conflict for many hundreds, perhaps a thousand years, but when nationality and nation building became a large part
in the north, the Sami were oppressed.

Anyone can also have reindeer, but only the Sami are allowed to have them loose, so to speak.

The Sami are probably one of the most peaceful cultures, they had a form of democratic system very early on.

Stunning Photographic Art. The one photo of the herder holding the head of the reindeer in his moving.

🦌 Sámiid boahtimušas ii leat gullon, ahte livččo boahtán gosge.

The Proto-Saami language appears to have first evolved somewhere in the Lakeland of southern Finland and Karelia in the Early Iron Age. A broad body of evidence points to the conclusion that the Middle Iron Age (ca. 300-800 AD) in Lapland has been a period of radical ethnic, social, and linguistic change: in this period the ProtoSaami language spread to the area from the south and Saami ethnicities formed. Prior to this, Lapland was inhabited by people of unknown ethnicity that spoke non-Uralic languages, many relics of which survive in Saami vocabulary and place-names. 🦌

I am 1/2 Sami, we are no more Indigenous to this region (Norway) than the Germanic tribes who is now considered Norwegian or Norse. Matter of fact, the Sami people came to the area 4000 years later than the Norse/Germanic tribes who is documented to have settled the region some 6000 years ago. The Samis came from Europe some 2000 years ago. It is a mis concept that they were ''the first'' people to settle this region. This claim just divide the population today and you will not find 1 Sami in Norway who is not also partially Norwegian. NOT 1.

The four largest ethnic groups that speak Finno-Ugric languages are the Hungarians (14.5 million),  Finns (6.5 million),  Estonians (1.1 million), and Mordvins (0.85 million). Majorities of three (the Hungarians, Finns, and Estonians) inhabit their respective nation states in Europe, i.e. Hungary,  Finland, and Estonia, while a large minority of Mordvins inhabit the federal Mordovian Republic within Russia (Russian Federation).

The indigenous area of the Sámi people is known as Sápmi and it consists of the northern parts of the Fennoscandian Peninsula. Some other peoples that speak Finno-Ugric languages have been assigned autonomous republics within Russia. These are the Karelians (Republic of Karelia),  Komi (Komi Republic),  Udmurts (Udmurt Republic) and Mari (Mari El Republic). The Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug was set up for the Khanty and Mansi of Russia. A once-autonomous Komi-Permyak Okrug was set up for a region of high Komi habitation outside the Komi Republic

Concerning our spiritual belief and ways of understanding life, it went underground after inquisition and has been there ever since. We just hide it and don't talk to outsiders about it. And this is just among us who still speak sámi language. The others who lost the language during the norwegianzation and assimilation time don't have the same mindset as us cause they don't have the same references which is connected to the language and upraising as children. And we feal deep connection with other aboriginals (natives) on earth. We are careful on the internet because of so much racism against us. I almost never go into discussion because it's almost always the same. We always have been a peaceful people and don't even have a own word for war, we borrowed word for war from our neighbor people the Finns. Anyway I wish you all the best ❤

Is it just me or do the modern day Sami look a bit different from the old black and white images? Reminds me of a doc i saw about the Cherokee nation in the USA

People don't realize that "indigenous" doesn't mean "native". It means "original people before imperialism and colonization". The Sami count as indigenous because they were invaded by the Norse and subjugated.

Only indigenous people? What does that make the rest of us?

Officially indigenous is a political categorization that refers to MORE than nativity. It is a minority group living from the land there who was still engaged in their original tribal pre Christian/pre-fuedal type cultural and food production up through the early modern (1600-1900) period, but was excluded, colonized, marginalized OR oppressed for this reason.

Hello everyone. I see that a lot of people have expressed concern over the title of this video, and taken it that we were implying that Europeans are not the native people of Europe. I have updated the title of this video to put "indigenous" in quotation marks. Of course we recognize that Europeans are indigenous to Europe and would never say otherwise, but the definition of "indigenous" used by governments is different than how we use the term colloquially. As some of you have suggested, I believe this is being done for invidious political purposes. Meaning, they all know that the average person equates "indigenous" with "native/original, " but they use it differently so that you will eventually accept certain premises (like there being no group with a superior claim to the land). I say all this to clarify that that was never our intent. Thanks for watching, to everyone who watched.

I often wonder about my Swedish Grandmother. She came from the far north of Sweden to the US in 1904. There have been old stories in my family that are not clear. Something about

The link to American Indians is obvious, as it is to the Berbers in Morocco. Are they a remnant of the Carthaginians, whom we are told is a lost people and culture.? The tartan is interesting too. Smacks of a Scottish/Irish link, and also to the ancient Tocharian mummies, found in China. They were dressed very similarly to the Saami and Scots. The Scots and Welsh were apparently able to converse easily with many American Indian tribes, in the first century of that population shift... Welsh is very similar to Basque and Etruscan. One then wonders why the Welsh and Gaelic languages were banned and suppressed in the 1920s. The hats and shoes are reminiscent of Dutch folk attire...

You shouldn't perpetuate the lie of Europeans not being indigenous. Its an Anti-White world we live in, please don't make it even more difficult.
