Darin's version, to me, is the most evocative, powerful, soulful version of this tune. It is beautifully rendered in simplicity and musical form.

Bobby Darin was a chameleon. He could sing in so many different styles and voices. Vastly underrated.

The Sopranos played this in one of their episodes. So glad I found it

I bought this single in October, 1966 and I still have it in excellent condition nearly fifty-three years later. I was 19 and a half then and I'm 72 now, so it's a long, long time ago. I never married a lady or anyone else. Marriage and children just don't happen for some people, no matter where they are in the world.

Just my opinion but I think this was the best version of all.

I was not a lady but I married a carpenter in 1974. And I stil love my carpenter, because he is still a great carpenter and he made many fine things for a lot of people. He still is my carpenter and I am his lady. We are together 44 years at december 16 I love hime more than ever

I think this understated beautiful rendition is the best.
His many styles and upsetting
People in his profession probably didn't help his career, but what a talent.

My wife did marry a poor carpenter in 1975 & she is still with me. We have sent some lean times but she loved me anyway. Still together in 2023. And our2 babies are grown with kids of their own. PRAISE God..❤❤❤❤❤😅

Woke up at 3:00 AM thinking about this song after decades. One of the most humble and heartfelt songs ever. Bobby Darin captured the essence of the song for sure. Robert Plant’s version is equally moving.

An incredible song by an artist who never received the full credit he deserved. At least the Rock Hall recognized him in 1990.

Many artists like Johnny Cash and even Led Zep covered this beautiful Tim Hardin-song but the versions of Bobby and also the Four Tops are the most awesome.
