Last season Lepizig gave them a run for their money even tho they didn't get the 3 points but this time they did. Marco Rose has been doing a great job ever since he went there and you can tell especially when they faced Madrid in the UCL both home and away.

It was inevitable that they would start losing. Luck is a huge factor in any invincible run

In Leverkusen’s build-out, Alonso should’ve had Wirtz drop into midfield and keep Grimaldo high up. If the CB marking Wirtz followed, he would’ve created a giant gap for Boniface and Grimaldo to chase down. If t Wirtz was left free, would’ve made a 3v2 and Wirtz has the ability to pick the ball up deep, drive and find the pass in-behind.

There was a lot of luck involved last season. Makes sense why they wouldn't be the same this season

Great video, Arsenal used similar tactics in pre season

A great coach always changes his tactics every season because other coaches read his tactics

A little new to football tactics, but genuine question: since Leverkusen's defender couldn't push into the midfield to avoid the 3 v 2 overload (because of the attacking threat), why don't one of the forwards drop in, in the same way that leipzig used a forward to create the overload in the first place?

This defeat doesn't really mean that much imo. Leverkusen might have some weaknesses in defense and they could be more clinical in front of goal from time to time (they probably could have been 4:0 up against Leipzig at half time the way they dominated) but they are still a really great and flexible team. Leipzig bounced back in the second half but their goals were also due to individual brilliance. If this game was played 10 times you would probably end up with 9 out of 10 wins for Leverkusen because there is no way Leipzig would score these type of goals in multiple fixtures.

There's a reason no team has gone invincible 2x in a row.
It's one of those lightning in the bottle events.
With a whole season of game tape, every opponent is now more prepared.

ur analysis is really good and about that match and specially about leverkusen as u said they could win this game but it was a game of transitions so who can exploit his transitions won and it was leipzig but in the main phases they were actually close to each other despite openda goal was from main phase build up

This is why Pep is the goat. He keeps evolving while others try to catch up.

Leverkusen is a great team but nothing out of this world. They had enough games last season where the oponent dominated them and they won in a really lucky maner, its just natural that ur not always that lucky. they are still a great team tho. I think that Stuttgart couldve won all their last matches against leverkusen, they also know how to play them but always got real unlucky

I sure hope Alonso makes thene essary tweaks to ensure Leverkusen doesn't drop off. But this is why tactically fluid managers like Ancelotti are so successful: they don't have a DEFINED atandard of play, they shapeshift based on the current situation. Managers with rigid philosophies don't know what to do when the opposition nullifies the strengths of their systems.

Leipzig were insanely effective and very compact in their system of play, Xabi Alonso show great Adaptation being aware of that

One of solution is dropping offensive player in central area and make 3 vs 2 in the middle. Then formation from 3 4 2 1 became 3 4 1 2 with two strikers. They can attack space behind the CB or between CB and wingback against 3 4 3, 3 4 2 1. Solution for Bayer Leverkuzen
