Şatellites - Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze (Batov Records)

Показать описание
Şatellites return with their biggest smash to date, on “Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze”, remaking a classic Turkish folk ballad into a psychedelic disco rocker destined to fill dancefloors.
“Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze” marks Şatellites first single since sharing their self-titled album on Batov Records in 2022. The album’s merging of Turkish folk, psychedelic rock, funk and disco, inspired by the groundbreaking Anatolian Rock wave of the 1960s, was named “Top of the World” by Songlines magazine, and championed by FIP Radio in France and BBC 6 Radio Music in the UK.
Here Şatellites reinterpret “Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze” (“Curls fallen on your face”), a classic ”Türküler'' song by the late great Turkish folk music singer, lyricist, and master of the bağlama, or saz, Neşet Ertaş. The group transform the sparse, melancholic ballad into a dancefloor beast, meeting somewhere between Anatalion rock, disco, and funk, with hints of electronica.
The speaker-shaking take recalls the groundbreaking work of artists from the 1970s, such as radical Turkish folk singer Selda Bagcan, whose experimental reworkings of classic ”Türkü” folk songs, with modern folk, psych, rock, prog and even early electronica, provoked strong reactions at the time, but has been long been held in high esteem both at home and abroad, inspiring the likes of Altın Gün, and hip hop artists such Dr. Dre, Mos Def and Oh No, who sampled her work
So in this 70s tradition of reworking earlier Turkish folk songs into powerful new forms, Şatellites kick start their version of “Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze” with an irresistible four-to-the-floor, persuasion-laced drum beat , soon joined by a pulsing bass line and fizzing synths.
However it’s not long before a “Neşet” style saz riff commences, followed by the commanding vocals of Rotem Bahar, Şatellites’ exciting new vocalist, whose voice soars across the song. “Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze” is transformed from a lovelorn plea into a rousing and passionate anthem for unrequited love, whilst gentle motifs transformed into Led-heavy electric saz riffs.
“Zülüf Dökülmüs Yüze” presents a new chapter in the Şatellites catalogue, with a impressive new vocalist and an unmistakably powerful and danceable new single, boding well for their future releases.
