I'm that engineer, with a family that needs a do it all, everything car. It was always my dream to have an M3, the downer is price. People will say "buy an m340" but in my mind that's a compromise for my goals and being a car enthusiast, the want to have the top trim I know would continue to eat at me. The sad part is all the older M3s that are in decent shape are still very expensive. A last year generation f80 comp pack is still up in the 60s for low miles. and its 6 years old! Its crazy how fast everything has shot up in price... anyway I'll get off my soapbox, love the videos and keep up the good work!

Wages down, prices up. Yet manufacturers seem to be cranking out 50k+ cars en masse while letting dealers mark up anything bellow.

As a BMW salesperson, I thought the G80 would be an absolute failure because the internet roasted the grille. However, the G80 has been the most successful M car BMW has ever made. Four years later and we still are selling them straight off the boat.

Conversation at 11:40. I never thought I'd be there, but it's becoming a reality. I have a couple fun cheap Japanese cars, but weekend garage wrenching time has given way to weekend kids time. And now I completely understand spending (what I thought was) crazy sums of money for car that's hot rodded out of the box and needs nothing.

I rent cars all the time while at work. Other cars just feel like they're held together by cheap plastic parts, even new 2024 models. They feel like the engine, transmission, suspension are not in sync. I drove a new Ford lately and the accelerator pedal was so vague that it was just a suggestion by me than an input. When you get in the BMW, it's just smooth, everything is tight, steering, brakes, engine, and if you just touch the accelerator it just goes. I have balding tires right now and my ride is just silky smooth and quiet still, it's a testament to BMW suspension. BMW just has the best chassis and drive, that's what you're paying for.

What isn’t expensive?
People are paying 6 figures for pickups. People are paying $50-$60k for a mid grade crossover…

Can't get over those screens. Same thing with the new Mustang. Its like a Sim cockpit.

Just a reality check, a 2004 base BMW M3 coupe starts at $47, 100 MRSP, $78, 179 adjusted for inflation. The convertible base MSRP is $92, 000 in 2024 dollars as well. The middle class buying power has eroded at the same time but the car prices are bang on with inflation, and you get so much performance nowadays for that money.

12:31 Bingo! Just picked up a 24 CT5 BW Manual few months ago and in love! Provides the same all in one package as the M3, a fast fun daily practical 4 door that can haul the family. What it offers that others cant 668hp rwd manual sedan, raw and visceral feeling and that sound! No other manufacturer offers something like this right now, honestly never thought I'd buy a caddy. Im coming from an E92 M3 to B9 RS5 to this CT5 BW, honestly my favorite car so far. Yes, fit, finish and luxury may not be up to par but that joy that engine gives me is unmatched. The sound is just insane, cant get that sound anymore with all these small liter turbo motors unfortunately.

Im with Jack on this one. If I have the money to run a car like the M3 it doesnt matter all that much if its 80 or 100k, since the running costs alone needs you to have a high income anyways. What I want is a sports car I can also take for a trip without all the compromises to a race car. Thats why it sells so well aswell. Can you have more fun in a track specced Miata? Hell yeah! Do the buyers of the M3/M4 want that? No.

Your comment at 11 minutes is literally why I just bought the M3 comp xdrive. On my way to and from the hospital I have 30 miles of highway. I currently have the M340 and it’s an excellent car but this is next level. Thank you guys for your excellent reviews!

G80 owner here. You captured my usecase perfectly. I live in the middle of nowhere and drive my car over long distances and only get to enjoy my car when im driving alone to work. This car is very comfortable in rush hour traffic, cruising on the highway and letting it loose through beautiful mountain passes. It does everything well

I have and M340 and love it and this M3. Having driven the M3 Comp, it is incredible. But for the price my money goes to the Caddilac CT5-V Blackwing with a manual. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Miata is the answer. I fell for the numbers game too, my last car being a 2023 M2. I had to be going 100+MPH to "feel" anything..., and I'm not a track person. I'm now in a 24 MX5 RF Club. I now understand why Miata is always the answer.

I’m a bit saddened that SG has never reviewed the M340i 😢

Originally I thought the grill was horrendous, I despised the overall look. But then I drove a manual G82 M4 at my local dealership and it was as though a powerful set of beer goggles had been plopped on my face. I enjoyed driving that car so much that when I was walking around the exterior after the test-drive I was thinking to myself 'huh, this thing actually looks pretty darn good'. Hahaha.
