I have a 666 and it is a good tube tester. However, found the tube chart for the EICO 667 is much more accurate and cn be used with the EICO 666 with a little adaption since the first 9 pin setting are the same. Also I have the EICO 610 adapter. It allows you to test Nuvisors, Novars, 10 pin miniture and Compactrons using the 666. The Eico 667 has sockets for them but they replace some of the older tube socket types. I also have a Hickcok 800A. Having had to repair both the Eico 666 and the Hickok 800A, the EICO is better built and easier to repair. The real advantage of the Hickok is the tube chart is reliable and it has all the sockets. If you are working on really old tube equipement I can recommend my Precision 912 tube tester from the 1940's.

I found an ADAPTER released for this that adds Noval, and I THINK nuvistor, but I have to go look. I own one. It plugs into the 12Ax7 socket plus the end cap.

Them tiny little sockets are for testing hearing aid tubes, also known as peanut tubes.

It's a shame that you call such an excellent tube tester tube killer because of a couple of misprints.
I've never blown one too bad of thousands I've checked over 25 years on mine. Are some typos but they're clearly documented if you do a web search which I found in many many years ago. This tester is accurate reliable and easy to use. It uses AC line centering, and it has the added benefit of being able to read heater Leakage by using a current meter. No idiot light there. I have caught many signal Tubes that it's starting to leak heater cathode current. It also allows me to quantify used power tubes That have developed leakage but it's far inside of the Spec, and I've sold many tubes with full disclosure and happy buyers.

The BAMA archive has some updated setup sheets for the 666, worth having a look. I noticed at least a few typos had been corrected in this new version!

What would be a good tube tester for me? I was looking for the Orange VT1000 & it's discontinued. I need something that will test EL34 & 12ax7 for guitar amps. Would an emissions tester do or would I need a tester the does mutual conductance?

Thanks for this video very educational for those who do not have no idea.. I always knew there was issues with this particular model and the charts. Errors are much widespread than I even realized .

To prevent over voltages and suavise the crazy fast galvanometer deflections, use 2 diodes 1N4148 back to back with 470uF capacitor in paralell with its coil. Obseve capacitor polarity.

I have an EICO 667, Nice tester; metal suitcase style. Good advice for anyone testing tubes on any tester.

12SQ7 slams the needle. I never could test one on my trusty 666.

Hmmm. That number 666 is very apt, if one is not very careful. Thanks for the wisdom and information!

I have the same unit it's a fairly common one and that's probably the best thing about it .
it's well-made the factory version not the kit and there's lots of documentation about it's compact enough doesn't weigh much

If you have any real clue as to what you are doing, you will never destroy a tube. If you are beyond how this instrument works, you dont belong restoring or even repairing radio / electronics.

I checked the charts on my 667 and EICO apparently made the corrections (at least on the examples you pointed out)

Sage advice. One flash and it's ash. I have a B&K 747B (their first transistorized tube tester). I haven't found any setup/configuration issues with it yet, but cross-checking first with the tube manual is a very good idea. 👍

If you want a odd little tester look up EMC 208. Mid century types only tiny emission tester with no meter. Uses two neon indicators. Works surprisingly well.

I had a B&K 600 that had filament errors on the original setup chart. At the time B&K sent out notices to owners that there were errors and reprinted them. Eico never advised anyone that I'm aware of.

I've got one of those old Lafayette tube testers but since the AC line is connected directly to all the circuitry inside, including the exposed tube socket pins, I've been afraid to ever use it!
