I used to work at the factory is Stuart’s Draft, Virginia! I worked on the line that made oatmeal creme pies, chocolate chip creme pies and fudge rounds. We were known as the “creme pie” line hahah. Fun fact - they are Seventh Day Adventist’s, so the factory is closed from sun down on Friday to sun down on Saturday.

Fun fact, years ago I delivered the mail in TN where they make some of these. All the neighborhoods around the factory constantly smell like sugary snack cakes.

OD McKee was a Seventh-Day Adventist, a religion that is known for their vegetarian diet. He wanted to make Hostess-esque snack cakes that did not contain lard or any other animal products, so he founded Little Debbie in Collegedale, TN, and named it after his granddaughter Deborah. There are now several huge production baking plants located there, right next to the campus of Southern Adventist University, where I did my undergrad. They always released steam from Plant 1 at 10 am, right when we switched classes, and the ENTIRE campus smelled like sweet baked goodies 🤤🤤🤤. There is a wholesale outlet store right down the road and it’s always worth the trip!

Surprised more people haven't heard of Star Crunch! They're honestly one of my favorite things they make. The crunch-into-chewy is not a common textural experience, and they hit a good balance of the flavors so the chocolate and the caramel aren't canceling each other out. It's basically a 100 Grand bar in a larger, softer form factor.

Being a 50-year old guy originally from Tennesssee...I do not see how the hell you missed out on Star Crunch.
They were everywhere, and easily one of the best LD products.

Not that anyone cares...but my Top Ten LD ranking:
Fudge Round
Star Crunch
Oatmeal Cream Pie
Nutty Buddies
PB&J Oatmeal Pie
Strawberry Shortcake Roll (They were better when they were smaller, had grainy sugar instead of the white icing, and were called Gel Creme Rolls.)
Peanut Butter Crunch Bar
PB Rounds (Hard to find, but pretty great.)
Cherry Cordials (These are holiday-specific and difficult to find, but great.)
Sunbelt Fudge-Dipped Chocolate Chip Granola Bars (A bit of a cheat, but still manufactured by LD.)

Obviously, none of the "snack cake" category is on my list, and that's because they're garbage.
They all taste the same, regardless of whether they have "chocolate" or not, and I can't stand the weird, plasticky icing.
I like the mini muffins, but I don't really consider them to be in the same realm as any of this.
