The Germanic tribes may have started as Rome’s enemies, but they ended up playing a huge role in shaping medieval Europe. Their story is truly fascinating!

Your map is wrong. Bohemia(today's Czech Republic) was never part of the roman empire.

The battle at the Angrivarian Wall was 16 AD and had nothing to do with Ariovist. It was the last battle of Arminius, who fought with his coalition troops against Germanicus. The battle between Cesar’s legions and Ariovist‘s warriors took place near Mulhouse (Alsace) in 58 BC.

The Oghuric invasion amidst the migration period depopulated much of Eastern Germanic proper cementing Slavs the main ethno-linguistic group of Eastern Europe. Bulgars, Avars, Huns all contributed to this process

I find it funny that it was unfettered Migration of a different culture that spelt Western Romes ruin. Similarly a few hundred years later it was also the unfettered migration of turkmen and arab culture that led to the final end of the Eastern empire. I needs to be spoken about more.

Last major Germanic invasion of Italy were by the Longobardi whose name became the present Italian region of Lombardy (Milan area) however for a couple of centuries or so the whole Italian peninsula was known as "Longobardia."

Tacitus, in his 98AD work “Germany” as well as other Roman scholars never described the Germans with a sense of “fear”.. instead they very specifically describe them as "vigorous at the first onset but not tolerant of exhausting labour, tolerant of hunger and cold, but not of heat or thirst”. It would be unfathomable in the Roman context to describe them as “fearsome”. In fact, they were very settled people.

Being directly of German descent, & knowing more people speak English, referred to as a Germanic language, today than any other language, it is my sincere hope we can all evolve emotionally to respect each other as we would respect ourselves; here's to a united & prosperous future for all mankind. 👌

I'm so tired of the historically incorrect maps of Scandinavia where Germanic peoples don't exist north of Møre&Romsdal and inland.

This shows a substantial holding by the Romans north of the Danube well into the third century, a region roughly corresponding to Bavaria and Bohemia. Is that accurate?

Tacitus' description of the Chauci is a strange appreciation. The Romans obviously got to know them on their naval expedition along the shore and the Elbe River. The distance to the Teutoburg Forest is so long that the Chauci probably did not take part in the great battle. Rome must have hoped that they could be allies behind the lines of the Cherusci. That's worth a few compliments, isn't it?

Most accurate video i have seen on the Germanic tribes on Youtube👍 A minor note on the map: The Nordic bronze age culture also included the Norwegian coastline all the way up past the Lofoten ilands. Same with the predecessor the battle axe culture(first indo european culture in Scandinavia). Subscribed👍🙂
