Sweden has formally joined NATO as the 32nd member of the transatlantic military alliance, ending decades of post-war neutrality.
Sweden's accession to NATO comes as Germany's defense minister travels through Scandinavia. Boris Pistorius is looking for a potential blueprint for reintroducing conscription in Germany, but the task will require significant political backing.

The idea that conscripts love their job is laughable. There’s a reason they are conscripts and not volunteers

Women must also be conscripted if it ever comes to that again. Equality does not end with rights.

I served 5 years voluntarily. I would never serve the state again and would resist conscription with force if it were ever inplimented in my country (very unlikely). It is nothing short of slavery.

I would not fight for the UK. I am educated, work 2 jobs, cannot afford rent and and just about have enough food to stave off hunger (food I cannot afford to heat). Why would I want to defend that?

medium-sized professional armies are expensive and don’t distribute experience well throughout the fighting-age population. Scandinavian countries have a good system

In Finland all men are conscripted... If you want some perspective on things. ;)

People won't fight hard if they don't believe in the cause.

If you do support war, then you need to go for conscription. All EU member states should go for conscription: the lazy times are gone!

Nothing wrong with conscription and many examples where it works well in Europe. Military service taught me many valuable lessons and skills.

I was in the US Military in West Germany. West German guys hated the thought of joining the military! They were more than happy to let the Americans, French and English to defend them.

It makes sense that ruzzian aggression and crazy hysteria (viz. invading neighboring countries [and lying about it], nuclear saber-rattling and historical revisionism) would lead to German re-armament.

Democracy certainly would have something to say about this despite Democracy being a threat to Democracy

Well, it takes a good 8-12 years to make a decent Platoon Sergeant. Better giddy up mochachos.

Surely, everyone will be thrilled by the idea.
