The Minisforum UM780 XTX packs quite a punch with the Radeon 780M GPU and Ryzen 7840HS CPU. It also comes with some unique features like an RGB top panel with customizable design, and an OCulink port for exceptional eGPU performance. This mini PC can easily handle any day to day office or school tasks. So I'm going to test how well it can game. Even trying the latest AAA GPU killers like Alan Wake 2!

The oculink port is the killer feature here, very upgradable and very portable.

Other than Daniel's informative content, i really enjoy his enthusiasm. You can tell the guy is really passionate about tech

I bought the barebone version of a 790 PRO few months ago and I really love it. It's equipped with two WD_SN850X of 2TB each and 2x16GB Crucial RAM modules. It's really a beast emulation machine.
I only run Batocera on it, and it emulates PS3 WiiU and Switch games really really good.
Would be great to see a performance comparison between the 780 XTX and the 790pro.
Thank you for the video.

SFFPC is the way to go if you like to have small systems but want the traditional modularity of a PC.

This one is quite neat though with its oculink port, i hope that becomes more common on mini PCs and laptops.

Looking at the minisforum sale right now. Um780 xtx and the UM690s for $351 seem to be great choices right now.

I had the opportunity to try out the new Steam Link app that just launched on the Meta store last night - Half Life: Alyx is now playable at what I consider an acceptable/playable framerate using the UM780 XTX, WITHOUT an external GPU! I haven't checked exact frame rates yet, but here is the test setup I used (note that I haven't had much time to do additional testing yet):

UM780 XTX
64GB RAM
BIOS Performance Mode (70 Watts)
BIOS UMA Frame Buffer Size 16GB
Wired USB-C connection
Win11 Pro
Meta Quest 3
72Hz Refresh Rate
Low Graphics settings

Certified TAA "hater" here, love you Dan! Just needed to say TAA haters don't want TAA abolished nor do they care if others like it, they just want an off option in every game. That's why TAA haters only complain about games when its forced on them and not games like this. I have to point this out because the way you worded your statement sounded like you disliked those people and maybe that's because you got the impression they want to take away this option from you or force you to prefer no TAA, but we don't (I definitely don't).

Also note I personally dislike TAA because I have a motion sickness disability and 97% of TAA implementations cause me to feel ill, making a large percentage of games inaccessible to me. As a gamer this is depressing to me, and since were PC players and not console users being able to tweak our settings should always be allowed, especially when it can be an accessibility feature like in this case. I sincerely hope this comment finds you well Dan. Best of luck!

wow didnt expect this good of a Alan Wake 2 performance. really crazy for such a demanding game. curious how good APUs will be in like 2-4 years. for myself i would never buy one bc i obv prefer a dedicated GPU but man especially for handhelds and portable pc setups, this stuff could be getting really interesting. frankly it already is interesting

Bg3 is an excellent choice to showcase the performance. Thank you!! Act 3 makes my 1050ti laptop struggle.

Would be curious to see this up against a similar priced pre-built
Edit: I know it will lose but I’m more curious the trade offs you’re getting for going to mini/portable vs what a super budget desktop would provide.

I recently got myself the Minis Forum HX77G (RX6600m & Ryzen 7 7735HS), absolutely love it. Ive literally just finished playing Death Stranding DC on it. Amazing what we are starting to get in such a small form factor. Coming from consoles, it makes it a more console like experience for me.

You should have maxed out the power settings & unlashed the full potential of the device.

I just bought a UM480 XT for 259 €. It only has a Ryzen 7 4800H and 16 Gigabyte RAM, but it is meant for my parents office, E-mailing and browsing needs and will do the job without any issues. The fan curve in the BIOS was pretty aggressive and the options were labelled in a way, someone without much knowledge won't understand much, but I will solve any issues with other software and tune the fan curve this way. Linux Mint will be the OS and the parents are going to be happy. The old machine is from 2006 and makes all kinds of noises and runs old Ubuntu.

This igpu on a desktop platform should be more than usable for both gaming and 4k video editing

I was just about to build a mini pc for the living room to run emulators for older games using a 5600G APU

But for the price, this is the better option! I bet it’s faster than the Zen 2 based APU and only $100 more than if I were to buy the parts and build it myself.

Definitely gonna think about this 😊

Tom at MLID is promoting this too. It is certainly the best product in this market. I want one but id rather get a new GPU personally. Great review.

The emphasis on "and are still **excellent games**, i might add" for Hades made me smile. Game is absolutely worth every penny, even if you double dip for the Switch version for on-the-go play (if, y'know, you don't have a steam deck).

This is an impressively beefy mini PC for sure and I'm curious how it would work for some beefier emulation stuff as well! That'd be the ideal secondary use case for something like this gaming-wise.

The 880M is going to rule I feel like. The 780M can run basically anything aside from the latest and greatest super well.

I will order one and replace my old big computer. Going for the Barbone and get a fast 2TB SSD, Kingston Fury and 32Gb DDR5 RAM. Will use it for some video editing and normal desktop work.
