So something happened when the temperatures hit over 100F (38C) with this high humidity … tourists stayed in the hotel! Attractions are more available than usual. Interesting. #overtourism #kyoto

I just got back to Texas from being in Japan for 2+ weeks. I had several new bills go through my hands during that time. It was pretty cool to see.
Yes, it's hot & humid there but honestly, not worse than Houston, Texas. The big difference is that in Japan you are outside more. Here in Houston, we stay inside as much as possible. We aren't walking outside as much as Japanese (walking to and from trains and such).
I saw soooo many people with the battery run hand fans. I struggled to stay hydrated while I was there. I drank hydration drinks and lots of vitamin supplemented drinks. I'm not sure if it was MSG in foods giving me dry mouth and constant feeling of needing to drink something. 🤷🏼♀️
Still, I only had one day that I felt affected by the heat (headache and slight nausea) and that was in Osaka when I had been outside more that day.
Thanks for the great videos. 👍

I was in Kyoto in early july. Never had any problem with crowds. Granted it was around 40-43C every single day.

With more SEA workers in Japan. Word is spreading how hot Japan really is. Before foreigners just thought Japanese were exaggerating

'How to Survive' - 'Survival kit' - 'Multiple Showers & Siestas' 🥵 ... How about, don't visit Japan in summer unless it's absolutely necessary.

I’ve been to Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, etc. I live in Georgia. What’s different about the heat in Japan is that we spend much more time outside in Japan - walking to and from train stations, bus stops, etc, for example. At home, the longest I spend outside is going from an air conditioned building to my car.

This is my second summer since we moved back to Japan, we live in Toyomi cho. seems so much hotter than last year? Been riding the bus out to Ariake and Odaiba to get some steps in as no way to exercise outside unless you get up super early. Haha. Thanks for your videos! I have used them to find to find new places to explore. Finally found the Ginza 6 garden last week ! Thats another way to hide from the heat. Just visit all the Ginza shops! Love the Muji and Uniqlo in the Ginza as well! Great places to beat the heat!!

Summer in Japan is no joke. All I always do in the summer in Japan is exploring department store or supermarket and just stay the heck at home and watch youtube, haha

we dont underestimate the heat in japan and my heart is with you guys, also in the middle east there are coastal cities like Kuwait and Jeddah that are really humid and really hot, and i think people in japan are just not used to the heat like people who lived in hot deserts for thousands of years, when foreigners come to the middle east i see them struggle and sometimes get hear strokes due to them not used to the heat, i have yet to see a single local get heat stroke or die because of the heat in Jeddah but the foreigners do die and get heat strokes all the time, stay hydrated and avoid the sun everyone and stay safe.
i remember being in Sensō-ji Tokyo last summer and saw people in the shades struggling and sweating, while me and my father stood there thinking why are they struggling ....the weather is great !, thats what happens when you live in Jeddah, anything below 33 degrees Celsius is considered cool. and 35 is just normal.

I lived in Japan for a long time, I know how humid it can get. For me I would drink lots of water and cocha/oolongcha. Soda and regular tea no. I also wore non all cotton shirts. I wear shirts that let your skin breathe and dont absorb sweet like all cotton shirts. Trains, conbini, good places for ac, Yamashita park would have outdoor mist'ers that you could walk through. I lived near the beach so I could open my patio door and let the breeze come through. AC is a must in the summer time. Beach is a good place to go and shopping malls for ac.
Tatami rooms are good too, if you have a patio doors there, good place to be and use fan and or ac and drink cold drinks.
I lived Cincinnati Ohio and it gets humid and hot there too. But a different kind of heat. Cincinnati is in a valley so the heat gets trapped there. At least if you live Yokohama or places nearer the ocean, you could get some relief sometimes. I would rather deal with the humidity in Japan vs Ohio.
I also noticed that in Japan when it rains during the summer(after rainy season), it gets hotter and more humid. When you get wet in the summer rain in Japan, you sweat more. In Ohio, even if its 90's when it rains, the rain is cold and you dont sweat until it stops and heat comes back.

Aloha my brother. I can fully understand what you're experiencing with the heat and humidity there. Oahu has had its share of very hot summers but as you know we have many beaches you can go to and we do have pretty decent tradewinds to help cool things down. But still it does get hot. Consider coming to Oahu for the summer. Just let Brandy and I know when. We'll be ready for you! 😊🤙

I've been to Kyoto in the summer time. Temp was 100+F and 90%+ humidity. You literally bake/steam

I just came back from Japan. Was there from the 16th to August 3rd. Every day, it felt like 46 degrees with humidity by 2 PM. Did stuff early in the morning, went back to hotel to shower and break. Went back out do sightsee, and then came back to shower/break. If it was still too hot, I would be done by about 6 PM, and would stay indoors for the evening. As long as you are hydrated and don't push yourself, it's managable. Tough, but managable.

Thank you John ! This was super useful information! About Japan vs Florida heat.. Florida when it’s in the 90s with 80/90% humidity.. it gets pretty darn hot.. In the summer I just woke up earlier, got everything done by 11am..then stayed in the AC until late afternoon, usually after the afternoon thunderstorm and rain.. Sounds like you’re describing something a bit fiercer..I’m going to go with some degree of radiant heat.. All the cement, buildings, something..but it sure sounds like you’re describing an added radiant heat factor.. Im not a weather girl..so I’ll have to ask my weather buddies 😊 Stay cool! High fives from our new home in Wyoming! It’s hot here too..90s..but there’s zero humidity ;-) so it’s not bad at all 😊❤

coming from Florida, if it's worse than FL, that's going to be a challenge. going to Japan in June and July 2025.

All the subways, trains and shinkansen generate a ton of heat... Japan's electrification contributes to the heat.

My wife and I were in Unzen Onsen in Nagasaki two weeks ago to get away from the big cities and crowd and literally had the whole place to ourselves.

Thanks to years of watching Only in Japan, it's easy to avoid the so-called "over touristed" spots.

It’s great to see you John I didn’t know it gets that hot in Japan showing the map it was interesting
