"Messi can't perform without Xavi and Iniesta". Well, that's why he decided to also become the Xavi and Iniesta of the team.

He has 18 goals + assists in 23 games. It's a good stat; but when we're talking about Messi, we expect him to have about 23 goals + assists in 23 games. But we should consider one thing: He has hit the ball to the crossbar 9 times! So to be honest, I think he's been great at PSG and the only problem is that he's been unlucky! Not only because of that, but also because his teammates lost about 6 times the great chances he had created and if they had not missed them, he would now have about 6 more assists!

The standards have been set too high by messi that people consider his performance this season average, while other footballers prime is this 'average level'.. simply the GOAT

3:40 When he's not going to be on the field we're all going to cry - Thierry Henry . This feeling itself breaks my heart. The excitement to watch messi play still remains the same. Never dared to imagine football without him ❤ . Love, admire and appreciate him while the magician is still here.

Because of messi I was able to overcome my fear of not dribbling. I always liked to dribble but nervousness ran through my mind when in a match. Now I take on 4-5 players easily and we are able to score easily. All thanks to the G.O.A.T.s who motivated me to play football and reach the level of skill I have today.

Real talk now, sure Messi's performances have dropped, he is getting older and it gets harder and harder to maintain that magical level of performance. People need to look at this analytically, Messi has been performing MAGIC for the past 15+ season, when I say magic, I don't mean the obvious magic of his play, I mean how he has managed to put out 50+ goals most seasons playing from the deep and non-striker position he plays.

Ronaldo has also been amazingly consistent, but Ronaldo has been a de-facto striker since that one season at Manchester united, sure he starts on the wing, but he never plays there, not really. During the build up, he makes a bee-line for the final third, and there is nothing wrong with that, he is a striker and that is the mark of a great striker. Back to my original point, the numbers that Messi puts up, whenever they are matched or whenever anyone gets close to it, it is because they are a striker, Lewandowski, Salah, Mbappe, Kane, Aubameyang, Ibrahimovic, Suarez, Haaland and Ronaldo (I'm talking 40+ goals). You never find anyone who plays as deep as he does, involved in the playmaking from start and putting up that kind of numbers. YET THIS MAN HAS DONE IT FOR 10+ SEASONS!!!

The biggest factor to this was without a doubt Messi's talent and brilliance, his style of play makes it incredibly difficult to rack up high number of goals and yet he did, and the second biggest factor to this was Barcelona. Their willingness to revolve play around him, the tempo of their play which was slow enough for messi to follow the attacks from deep to the final third, and their willingness to making finding him a top priority. These factors have contributed to Messi's outstanding numbers.

But at PSG, sure he is older and he picks his moments more and more, but his brilliance hasn't diminished that much, what has changed is the style at PSG. Watching a PSG match makes it evident why he isn't racking up the usual amount. With PSG's top heavy constitution, he has to drop deep into playmaking positions more and more, and when the attack moves up, the tempo is a whole lot faster than at Barcelona, especially with a speed merchant like Mbappe leading the line, often times the attack leaves Messi behind, and other times when he does catch up, he isn't the top priority as he was in Barcelona, and so you see scenes where he is free in his sweet spot but doesn't get the ball, but PSG have good reason for that, Mbappe is young and hungry and wants to make his mark, Neymar has always been seeking his individuality, and these two have been the main men for a while, as a result his performances have suffered.

This is not excusing the fact that he has had misses, of course he has, but this is because his condition hasn't been the best, and all points mentioned above contribute to his less than ideal condition, and the fact that he is older makes it harder for him to adapt to PSGs style to score. By condition, I don't mean injuries, I mean his physical state, mental state, team style, and so on, condition is much closer to form. But one thing you would see is that his playmaking hasn't suffered anywhere as much, he continues to be PSG's most creative player, and if PSG's frontline hits a patch of form, you will see those numbers increase.

But all people look at are numbers, he hasn't scored boo-hoo, when they should be asking themselves, HOW IN THE HELL HAS A PLAYER THAT PLAYS SO DEEP MANAGED TO CONSISTENTLY MATCH UP WITH ONE OF THE GREATEST AND MOST CONSISTENT OUT AND OUT GOALSCORER IN THE GAME. That is just another Magic of Messi

COVID, injuries, adaptation to a new team and country after 17 years, team chemistry, Pochettino, NINE woodwork hit, and he's still had some excellent performances.
15 G/A in 21 games, very good in the UCL, and Messi offers far more than stats anyway.
