Ackee and saltfish is Jamaica's national dish due to its rich historical, cultural, and culinary significance. Ackee, originally from West Africa, was brought to Jamaica in the 18th century. Saltfish, or salted cod, was introduced by European traders. The combination of these ingredients reflects the fusion of African, European, and indigenous influences that characterize Jamaican cuisine.

The dish is beloved for its unique and flavorful blend, often accompanied by staples like dumplings, breadfruit, and fried plantains. It symbolizes the island's history, resilience, and the creative ways Jamaicans have adapted and integrated diverse culinary traditions into their own. And personally it's my favorite and I would eat it everyday, so it belongs in S tier.

As a Jamaican who used to live in Texas, the ONLY place my family was able to buy oxtail was in the little Mexican stores that sold native items from Mexico. When my Mom and I went in there, we used our muy pequeno knowledge of Spanish to describe what we wanted. It was such a wholesome moment because people in the store thought we were lost but when we picked up items and the oxtail to use in our cooking, we became family. So when you say Jamaicans and Mexicans have a lot in common, I felt that!

Quite a fun review, especially hearing "auckee" and seeing boiled dumplings eaten by hand. 😂 I don't always enjoy these kinds of videos, but I rather liked this one. Also, ackee isn't native to Jamaica, it was brought to the island by West Africans.

Ackee should remain the national dish because it is plentiful in Jamaica and little to no one in the world makes it like we do.
