How to Send Disappearing Messages on Whatsapp

You can now send disappearing messages on WhatsApp.

You can set disappearing messages at individual chat level or group chat level or account-wide.

This update only works with new messages and won’t affect existing conversations.

You can set messages to disappear in 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days.

If a user doesn’t open WhatsApp in the 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days period, the message will disappear from the chat. However, the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened.

To change disappearing message at the account level on what’s an app on iPhone or Android, Go to WhatsApp Settings, tap Account, click Privacy, Default message timer, and select a duration.

interesting. I have a couple of questions. what happens to the messages, Do they disappear from the senders phone as well as the recepients phone or only theirs ? I am a bit confused . Also, what about this view photos once function. Does this function (disaapearing messages affect dissappearing photos function. If I only wand one the receipient to view the photo once but I have messages set to stay active for 7 days does that mean that they can view the photo for seven days.

I read this message "A uses a default timer for disappearing massages in new chats. New messages will disappear from this chat 24 hours after they are sent. Tap to set your own default timer".
But my all new and old texts since day 1(from 2016) for one contact disappeared (nothing I did).

Can I restore them? And how please?
