For Excel for Windows users, the Data Model is the recommended place to store data in Excel, especially when you’re working with multiple tables or large tables.

Most people use the data in the Data Model to create Pivot Tables. However, there’s more to the Data Model than acting as a source for Pivot Tables

In this video I’m going to show you how to use a combination of DAX Measures and Excel’s CUBEVALUE function to take a value from the Data Model and display it in a cell in a worksheet.

For full details see the timestamps below:

⏱ Timestamps
00:00:00 Introduction
00:02:11 Creating a Measure
00:04:40 Create the CUBEVALUE Function
00:06:45 Add a Formula to the TextBox

🗒 Notes and Resources

The formulas that I used in the demos:
=SUM(Orders[Total Revenue]) - SUM(Orders[Total Cost])
=CUBEVALUE("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[Measures].[Total Profit]")
=Notes!A1
