I never get tired of hearing this - from the sparse intro to the bass/chords on the bridge. Cool as hell song.

Can you say, "Game changing?"
This is the opening track (and, for my taste, the best track) on the LP that changed everything regarding what was to be expected from Rock Musicians from that point on.
Three virtuosi (including vocally) who had not only "chops" (hitherto not unknown, but unconsidered), but also "musicianship" (as in mastery of the elements of Music).
Did they look cool?
Sort of, but that was the icing on the cake.
The cake was...
THEY COULD PLAY... and COMPOSE... and use PRODUCTION to provide something in excess of what their prodigious talents could do in live performance.
This track is so brilliant, on every level, that it actually anticipates, and is good enough to appear on, their next LP, one of my 10 Favorite Rock Band LPs of All Time, "Disraeli Gears."

first rock song i ever remember hearing, older neighborhood boys starting a garage band and were playing it to learn it. I was smitten with this album and i was hooked on music ever since. i was just a grungy little kid snooping around to see what the big kids were doing.

this era of music has great power trio's, old school valve amps + pure talent and pioneering instruments all to the beauty of the songs there's nothing like it, and sadly rarely has been since such abundance of high calibre bands.

It’s cream. So the mixing may not be great but it’s all still there. I could listen to it all day

The original sounds gritty and of it‘s time. I like all re-mixes, usually, but prefer the original.

Covered by The Second Coming, a precursor of the The Allman Brothers Band, so I put both in my ABB playlist. Thanks!

Was hoping for a complete remix - the extreme stereo separation kills the song - almost all the instruments dumped into the right channel and burying the sound.

Why do all the officially released stereo mixes have the guitar and base on the right, and the isolated tambourine on the left? Whoever was tasked with mixing it from mono to stereo just utterly failed to do their job properly. You have to listen to the mono mix to actually hear the interplay between Jack’s bass and Eric’s guitar. Somebody at one of the record companies really should make a new mix.

This really sounds like it was done on a 4 track because of the mix panning. Doesn't make sense because Atlantic had 8 track then. Probably sounds way better in mono. I wonder of this was Tommy Dowd's original mix just re-mastered, or is this a multi-track remix as well? In the days of 4 track, it was pretty common to record the entire rhythm section on just one track, leaving 3 open for overdubs.

Eh. Everybody moanin about the sound should've listened to it on 8-track tapes that had been eaten several times, spliced back together with scotch tape and then played on Kraco-matic 8 track tape players, through cracked speakers in the doors of a 67 Chevy pick-up truck bouncin down a gravel road, while passing a doobie and spilling beer everywhere, lol.

better instrumental isolation, but I feel like the original is lost somewhere in the mix.

Needs remixing so the drums piss that fucking tambourine out of the way .

Does say remaster which doesn’t touch the mix at all. Can’t fix any of the notes issues with mastering except Gen the track to mono which I am sure is way better

All tamburine and no drums makes me a dull song.
