My playground was concrete, sand and asphalt.. none of that round plastic.. sure I got hurt, but learned not to be stupid too.. 😄

Lawsuits changed US playgrounds. Lawyers literally used to sit outside parks and wait for a kid to get injured, then would ask the parent if they wanted representation to sue the city. This changed parks forever.

Reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in the 1970s. Similar to German playgrounds.

Romania actually has the same type of playgrounds, I grew up with parks like these so to me it's funny seeing people think they're dangerous lol

It's the same in sweden too lol, I actually live near one of these playgrounds and grew up climbing those tall rope things

That makes sense. Let the kids learn to fix their mistakes while the stakes are lower.

Somewhat similar in the UK, the US ones are used for under fives, whereas above 5s have German like ones

US playgrounds look like that because cities got sick of being sued. My mom was at a conference of child educators & was talking to a city parks Commissioner and he told her that the city just closed all the parks because of law suits.

There are plenty of playgrounds like this in New Zealand too

Growing up in the 80s in the US, our school playground was asphalt, fall off the jungle gym or monkey bars hurt. And lets not forget the metal ladders on a hot afternoon.

The song Ericka starts playing louder as child climbs on the playground

That german playground looks like little me’s dream. And still is

I wish playgrounds were still like that in the US. I hate this obsessively safe culture

And Germany doesn't have many guns in civilian life. Which means kids don't have off the scale risks. Give kids risks they can learn to handle not those they absolutely can't.

In the sand there are also broken beer bottles so we pay attention as kids where we step

Meanwhile Japan barely has swing sets or jungle gyms anymore because of safety concerns
