Here are my reasons for why Clara cannot go south to be with Kree during the winter! It's fun when people try to find solutions to their problems, but know that the whole point of their story for me, is that they're a long distance relationship, showing you can love someone deeply even if you don't get to be with them everyday. Any solution someone comes up will, I will try my best to refute, not because its logistically impossible, but because this is what I want. ;)

I feel I should mention something not entirely clear here!
Since it's the equator and not the southern hemisphere, it stays warm all year round, and most magia stays there, along with all magical creatures that can't travel far! So the north doesn't get overpopulated with magical creatures during summer and in fact, most magical creatures in Clara's area go into stasis/hibernate to survive the winter!
