By Jesus saying: "Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone." I always took it as him saying, "If you're calling me good, and God alone is good, are you calling me God?".

You don’t even need the Gospel of Mark to prove Jesus is God. The Gospel of John straight up tells you he is at the start.

Another way to look at it is Jesus was challenging the rich young man to see Jesus as God

The man called Jesus "good teacher" and Jesus saying "no one is good but God" is basically asking him "since you say I am good, do you see me as God?"

That perspective of seeing Jesus as a teacher prevented the young man from taking one step further after hearing the instruction

to anyone who says that Jesus is not God: In the Book of Revelation it is written, "I am the Alpha and the Omega (the first and the last) says the Lord God", and later it is written that Jesus says: "I am the First and the Last"

Put it like this because it’s pretty simple:

If Jesus asks “why do you call me good? There is none good but God alone”

Then why didn’t the man answer that question?

Its kinda skipped over in our minds because its skipped over in his mind and therefore skipped over in the story. But I mean the only real answer would have been “well because you’re God” but if the man believed that, the follow up question would have been “well then why am I being so rude? This is the lord standing in front of me!” If the dots connected, the man would have had a mini existential crisis in that moment and would have been on his knees begging for forgiveness right then and there. Think of it like you accidentally as a child said “yea” instead of “yes sir” to your father. Once he gave you that look, you would immediately correct your mistake. That question was supposed to act as the proverbial look.

We know that this line of thinking didn’t cross the man’s mind because that reaction wasn’t given neither was the proper respect up front. So the question isn’t Jesus denying his oneness, it was really a question of faith in the moment. The lack of faithfulness is reflected in the man turning away once the command of “sell all you have to the poor” is given. So Jesus walks away with a “hmm… exactly. Thought so” moment

Oh wow I never realized the "follow me" part. Thanks, very good video.

I also want to point out that Jesus also calls himself later on as "I am the GOOD Shepherd" (John 10:11-18). If no one is Good except God by his own words, then why did Jesus claimed to be Good? It is very fascinating of how Jesus reveals himself in subtle ways.

... very basically, what Jesus is asking is "why are you calling me good?" just like He asked His disciples "but who do YOU say that I AM?"
had the the guy in Mark 10 answered, "I call you good because you are God" THEN Jesus would have said "blessed are you because flesh and blood have not revealed this unto you but my Father who is in heaven"... Jesus IS God so this question is designed to get the hearers to wonder WHO is Jesus ... and when He cmds him to follow Him, He is pointing to Deut 18:18-19 (as will be clarified in Acts 3:22-23)
Jesus IS God and if you do not believe this, you will die in your sins (John 8:24)

With love: Jesus doesn’t merely “rattle off” the commandments. He wonderfully and eloquently teaches how the law is the schoolmaster.

Christ isn't denying divinity. He's addressing the man's question as an unintentional slight to who he is.

"If I'm merely a good teacher to you, and is all you see in me, then you're already putting upon me something that ONLY belongs to the Father in Heaven, who IS good."

He's turning the question around on the Rich Man by refusing to take on a title that is unbecoming to who he is, really. And reminding the man that even the BEST teacher, is still not worthy of being "good", compared to the Father in Heaven.

This video came up just as I very recently heard about this claim and was bugged by it. Coincidence? perhaps not. Thank you for the video!

i feel you left out important parts.
- first in the OT God promised Israel material wealth when they obey Him. They would see a rich man as bless by God.
- Even though the man was blessed with riches he knew something still not right which cause him to ask " GOOD master, what shall I DO that I may inherit eternal life?"
- Jesus focus on the word GOOD. there is only one good that's God
- Then Jesus listed the commandments dealing with your fellowmen. Remember God is Good yet Jesus left out the commandments dealing with God.
- The man claimed he kept those commandments which Jesus didn't rebuke him. It seems he became rich without doing wrong toward his fellowman.
- Then Jesus told him something that is not found in the law : " sell EVERYTHING and give to the poor, take up the cross and follow me."
- Where was Jesus heading? to the cross. It's at the cross the man could inherit eternal life which is what he asked. The commandment Jesus give the man is the very commandment he was fulfilling.
- The disciples were shocked when Jesus described how hard for a rich man to enter heaven. because they saw a rich man as being blessed by God.
- Jesus final conclusion of GOOD is " With men it's impossible but not with God, for with God all things are possible.
- Then Jesus went to the cross to do the impossible. Jesus is Good, thus Jesus is God.

I think what the verse meant was *why do you call me good when only the lord can be good *

I always thought he was trying to get him to admit he was God by asking that question.

Jesus said "only God is good" and he also said: "iam the good Shepherd" like in Psalm 23 :"the lord (YHWH-God) is my shepherd" that would explain it to in my opinion. Good work keep going Jesus loves you🙏🏼🫶🏼✝️

Alr let’s see what we got.

“I and the Father are one.”
‭‭John‬ ‭10‬:‭30‬
(Shows how Jesus and the Father are the same and showing equally with God)

“Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭9‬
(Shows how Jesus and the Father are united)

“Very truly I tell you, ” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I AM!”
‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭58‬ ‭NIV‬‬
(Shows how Jesus is eternal and divine)

“Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭14‬:‭33‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David, ” they were indignant. “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him. “Yes, ” replied Jesus, “have you never read, “ ‘From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise’ ?””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭21‬:‭15‬-‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭24‬:‭52‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“Then the man said, “Lord, I believe, ” and he worshiped him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭9‬:‭38‬ ‭NIV‬‬
(A bunch of times where Jesus accepts worship (side note: if Jesus wasn’t God why would he accept worship wouldn’t he want to shut it down? Oh wait! Jesus is God and that’s why he accepted worship))

You can’t say that Jesus didn’t say that because the people who wrote the gospels were eyewitness accounts. Were they lying? No because they were martyred for their beliefs.

We also got all the miracles and messianic prophecies Jesus did/fufill.

If you want to use the Bible to disprove the Bible, maybe actually read the Bible instead of grabbing random verses without context.

While you invite to Islam, I invite you to the Jesus, the truth.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Repent and believe the good news. God bless and have a good day :)

Look at the Greek! The articles are added in order to construct an English sentence. The actual text reads “WHY SAY/TALK ME GOOD.” It’s in response to the man asking “Good master, what good thing must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus’ response referencing the word “good” would be connected to the most recent use of the adjective “good” by the man.
That’s why the more accurate translation (used in many versions) is, “Why do you talk to me about what is good?”

He’s not responding to the salutation “Good master.” He’s responding to the main question, “What good thing must I do?” He’s basically saying, “You aren’t good; you can’t do a ‘good thing’ to get eternal life. Only God is good.”

It isn’t “Why do you call me good?”
It’s “Why do you say to me, “good?”
