Very useful tips and instructions. I feel like even I could pull off some of those shots after watching, but, in my case, I know that's just the rush talking! 🤣

A very thorough and easy to understand tutorial. To further "sell" a shot like this, I would add a shadow catcher (in Cycles mode) where the actor's neck and/or shoulders would be, so that the helmet shadow would fall on the actor's "body" (giving the shadow catcher the same color material as the actor, for any reflections or bounce light that's recorded by the helmet mesh). While alignment of the shadow-catcher mesh may require a frame-by-frame adjustment (or possibly an animated armature if there's a lot of actor movement), a larger light source would soften the shadow, reducing the amount of work needed to keep the shadow aligned. Keeping this in mind from the outset, the original footage should be shot with softer lighting. Not exactly sure how this would work with HitFilm, though. Thanks for the tutorial.

You basically transformed Blender into a totally PRO Software bro. I´ve never seen such a good content about tracking in Blender. TKX

Excellent advice to add contrast, saturation, and even some sharpening to footage before tracking! It's worth noting that this can be completely separate from color correction and grading for other purposes.

(By the way, Zach does some of the clearest tutorials on YouTube. He would also make an excellent voice actor for a scarier version of HAL 9000, and I mean that with great respect!)

Fricking awesome tutorial. You made this straightforward and its one of the coolest things I've done so far in Blender (Process is still the same in 3.1). Subbing immediately :)

That's the same method Christopher Nolan used for Harvey Dent in Dark Knight, hope Sony uses it for Calypso in the Twisted Metal TV series
