Qantas to invest in Queensland biofuel refinery

Australia will have a sustainable aviation fuel refinery in Queensland following an agreement between Qantas, Airbus and the state government.

The refinery is expected to start construction next year with a maximum output of 100 million litres of fuel a year.

Today's announcement will see the companies jointly invest $2 million in the new plant with the Queensland government putting in $760,000.

So, millmud that can be used as fertilizer will be moved to making fuel instead of food at a time when we have a fertilizer shortage. Sounds about right.

There is not enough waste biomass to go around if they want to take that to 100% of their fuel. About time they started investing in saltwater algae farms that produce oil. Would be interesting to know how many square kilometers of ponds that would take, and where they would put them. If they don't do that they will end up redirecting agricultural output from food production. 💀
