I lived in Gonzales for about 3 months. Lovely little town and the cannon as I read on a plaque in the downtown square actually belonged to the Mexican army but was abandoned by the fleeing Mexican troops. General Santa Ana demanded it’s return and the response was come and take it! I think it still sits in the center of town to this day. 🤓
