In this video titled EU4 - What if The Holy Roman Empire Didn't Exist? we take a look at what would happen if The HRE didn't exist in 1444 / What if The Holy Roman Empire didn't exist at the start of EU4. In this video I dismantled The HRE, so naturally, it doesn't exist. As you can probably guess this scenario resulted in some pretty funny shenanigans. Obviously you would expect that it's neighbors would dominate, but did it really turn out that way?
This whole run was controlled by the AI only without my interference and it yielded some pretty interesting results to be honest. So, after watching this video you will know what would happen if The Holy Roman Empire didn't exist 1444. What is the next "What if" scenario that I should do? Leave a comment below! The save file is available for all Tier 1 and above Youtube members in the save-games Discord channel.

The Despensers actually were a noble family from Wales. Iirc they gained a lot of power under Edward the II and were really hated. It was the start of the wars of the roses I think.

Dude don't open up with that! "Rome is protestant and owned by the Ottomans" nearly gave me a stroke

"De Spenser" was likely a Norman French family name. They were given land in Wales by the Conqueror, I think. Probably pronounced "Duh-Spon-Say" or something, but I'll leave that to the French to correct. Fun video, Hawk!

It would have been a ridiculous amount of work, but I would like to see a larger sample of games with this start so that we can get an idea a to what this would normally look like. Italy being the biggest part of it where my gut says the Ottoman's performance was a fluke, but at the same time I can see how the lack of the HRE could have actually caused it.

I don't know how hard it would be to do, without a mod or something, but forcing every nation to take Exploration as the first idea group would be interesting.

In the future you could do "What if Deccan existed in 1444" or "What if Arabia existed in 1444" or even "What if China started divided in 1444"
