A Vintage Feel For A Relatively Low Price | Jazz Archtop Guitar Review

In this video, I review a cool, modern archtop from Guild that is basically a replica of one of their older models that were made in the USA. This particular Guild X-175 was made in the last 15 years in Korea and has since been discontinued. That being said, these guitars are in the $1,000 range and can be picked up used on Reverb. I happen to like several things about this guitar, including the price point. However, the overall tone of the archtop does not knock my socks off. This guitar would be a very solid archtop for gigging or for a beginner jazz player. Let me know what you think about it. Leave me a comment, and thanks for watching!!

You are so smooth on Wave. Just beautiful. Your intro was perfect segue into the song. It sounds like you have played it a thousand times before. And the way you mix in runs with the head melody— a true master at work. Thanks for reminding me just how long it takes to truly know a song before you can improvise in a way that does it justice. I've got one from 2013. Yeah it really has grown on me. I have D'Addarios 12s round wounds on it and it has that nice jazzy hollowbody tone.

I have a Guild X-175 and like it very much. It survived the chopping block over my other mid-range guitars over the years. It sounds identical to what Rich was playing. I just bought an Ibanez George Benson GB30 and the quality is impeccable along with a smooth jazz tone, the highs really pop. The lows are similar to the X-175. This Friday I have a Samick JZ--2 arriving. I hope it sounds a little deeper(than the x-175 & GB30) and sweet as Rich demonstrated in one of his video reviews. Keep the good work Rich, you're an inspiration to all of guitar players(of all levels) everywhere.

Hey Rich, just turn the screws out to raise the pickup output like the old P90s.

Sounds great and very nice guitar. - The D'Angelico Excel or Deluxe 59 come as well with P90. Maybe you could get a hand on these in the future.

Your left hand amazes me, I hear individual notes, but I don't see a tremendous amount of movement.

I have a Guild Savoy. It's a really nice playing guitar, except the 17" bout is too big for this old guy. And "solid" is not (I think) "carved." Right?

I had one but I didn't like it. Looked great and the feel was good but the pickups didn't do it for me. Those are not P90s but Franz single coil as they are called. I love single coils but they are weak sauce. I was gonna replace them with actual dog ear P90s but the route is different. I could have routed it but in the end I just thought I would sell it. Anyway I have some cool Gretsches with HiloTrons, Dynasonics and FilterTrons so I am happy.

I bought my X-175 used on eBay in 2019 for $599.

The Blue one Wes showed is not the same. It has DeArmond pickups not Franz. I think the DeArmonds sound much better than Franz but that is all opinion.
