Greek ferry passenger 'pushed to his death by crew'

A Greek minister was forced to resign for defending ferry workers who were filmed pushing a passenger to his death as he tried to board after arriving late.

Many Greeks were outraged when video footage emerged of the 36-year-old passenger trying to board the ferry in the port of Piraeus by running up onto its back ramp, only to be blocked by crew members who shoved him into water that was being churned up by the ship’s giant propellers.

Antonis Karyotis was denied entry to the ship despite having a valid ticket.

This is murder. I have worked as a sailor for most of my life and to see colleagues behave like this is painful. These "sailors" did exactly everything wrong. Power combined with irretation cost this man his life. I am completely convinced that the shipping company will notice a sharp decline in bookings / ticket sales. I suffer with the guy and his relatives / Adam from Sweden.

I had bought a ticket, he was just going to miss the boat. Supposedly for a while he got it, but in the end a young lad under 35 lost his life. In a proper and structured system, no citizen could enter the port area while a ship is leaving.. but this is grecce.. 😢

Very misleading title. It seems like the ship was already moving and the passenger was hurriedly trying to get on and in the confusion fell in the gap.
