From Putin’s perspective, the war is a defense of Russia’s interests, driven by a deep psychological grudge against the West. His desire to be accepted by the global community and his anger over Russia’s exclusion from the G8 fuel his actions, as he seeks to reclaim Russia's honor and revenge the fall of the Soviet Union.
