UN climate talks set to start in Germany: What's on the agenda? | DW News

Negotiators from around the world are meeting in the western German city of Bonn this week for UN climate talks. One of its goals is to hash out the details of a new fund that's intended to pay for loss and damage experienced by poorer nations due to climate change. The meeting comes as wealthy nations prepare to outline their plans to tackle the global climate crisis.

The atmosphere does not care that China was not a “historical” emitter of CO2. At over 27% of emissions, if they are not required to contribute all is futile. The target has already been raised from 1.5 to 2 degrees. Without “all” nations actively pursuing CO2 reductions I predict this “target” will be raised to 2.5 then 3 then 3.5 and so on. Even if every so called “rich” nation stops using fossil fuels it will not change reality. The global south has its own fossil fuels that it can access cheaply and will use it to prosper regardless of what the rich nations do or how much money is handed over to corrupt dictators.

That graph on the thumbnail is so misleading. Of course the economic damage is higher now. 90% of the world was undeveloped back in 1970, so the economic damage from disasters was relatively low. As cities grow globally, and every country developed, and roads, bridges, and cities were built… the economic potential damage from natural disasters went up. That’s such a misleading graph that it’s gross misconduct for this channel to even present it like it is because of climate change.

I’m all for taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions and cut back pollution, but do not take liberties with the truth so that you can support your agenda. That’s not news. That’s activism.

Edit: and on top of that! It’s not even inflation-adjusted $ either. So of course the cost is much higher now than before, even if everything had remained the same. I’m so frustrated looking at that misleading graph you seriously tried to pass off like evidence.
