Either works, TBH. "Happy Holidays" used to be "Happy Holy Days", referring to the 12 day long Catholic Christmas "feast" days that led up to Christmas. So either way, intentional or not, it's a Christian greeting. That's why, as a Christian, I don't get bent out of shape over it.

Since I'm probably he Old Man around these parts I can say that I've never seen saying Happy Holidays as offensive or caving to the Left. Always considered Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year to be the holiday season so when cashier or someone said "Happy Holidays" I just take it as they're covering the whole memories go back to the 70s so this is a long standing traditional greeting.

thanksgiving,

yuletide/winter solstice (the original "christmas")
christmas,
Then new years.

My view is say whatever is gonna come.up next or whatever it is you're celebrating.

Or you can say "happy holidays" because... There are alot of holidays.

There's no reason to be offended over it.
