Backstreet Boys Interview: Brian Littrell Addresses Vocal Problems

Backstreet Boys Brian Littrell talks to The Seven Sees about issues with his vocal chords that he hasn't fully revealed until now in the band's feature documentary "Show 'Em What You're Made Of."

Nick looks so uncomfortable and upset while they are talking about it. And seeing Kevin just intently watch Brian like he's ready to jump in at any moment is so sweet too. I hate Brian is going through this, but he sounds SOOOO much better! This time off before the residency in Vegas will hopefully be added time for him to continue his recovery.

Look at how everyone immediately tenses up when that reporter asks about Brian's vocal issues. Nick looks really pissed. You can tell this is still an incredibly touchy subject in the band, it's so sad..

In addition to the description given here, Brian was supposedly struck with the swine flu around the time of the NKOTBSB tour. So, that may have been the catalyst for everything happening now.

His therapy has definitely been working. He sounds so much better on this past tour!

Shania Twain overcame it. I think Brian needs a break tho. Like a real break. A year without doing anything strenuous with his voice except working on controlling it again. The problems arose around the time of the NKOTBSB tour, progressively got worse, then he started getting therapy for it and it's gotten better, but since then they made an album and had a 2-year tour. Shania took real time off to work on it. I think Brian needs that too. I understand that being the "de facto leader" puts a lot of pressure on him and he doesn't wanna let them down, but he can't be there if he can't sing. And they want him to get better. Especially Nick. The part in the movie where they're talking about it (after all the screaming is done) is really touching.

Brian's voice is so beautiful and so sweet, I'll never forget how many joys he has give to me, his voice made me sigh, laugh, cry, feel even the deepest of myself, and that for a singer is very difficult to achieve. Brian please never give up, you don't have to prove anything. We all know it, you're the best and that's written in the history of music and of course in our hearts, we love you and will always love you.

I don't think Brian's situation bothered Nick in a negative way so much as it's scared him, and he probably hates seeing Brian go through this and not being able to do something to fix it, I think it's all come out of a place of love from Nick there brothers and they care for one another.

It's sad. He has such a Beautiful voice, and for this to happen to him. It's such a shame when bad thing happen to good people!

we all know it was there.. I am really happy that he has acknowledged it... He had the sweetest voice.. Praying or it to come back.. I know he has worked on it and in a way in the new album.. he  has sung songs keeping these issues in mind.. But it is still tough on the old songs..

Brian's voice in 2017 and 2018 is soo amazing and I think he's getting way better recently even though he seems like lost some weights. I'm so proud of him.
but why does Brian always have to suffer from serious diseases... heart defect and had a open heart surgery, swine flu, then dystonia and dysphonia. Although he has lots of struggles, he never gives up and smiles all time. That's beyond amazing. We're always with you Brian.

Brian was born with heart defect and then dystonia and dysfonia. So probably his immune system is not strong compare to others since he was born. He's been through a lot and I'm so proud of him fighting all of the illnesses. He's strong enough.

I believe this same thing happened to Shania Twain and she recovered. I believe there is a strong psychological component.
