The Alchemists said that without Mercury, there would be no Alchemy. 'Her-ma' in Greek is 'Ma-Kheru' in Egyptian. Ma-Kheru means true voice, speech or logos'. 'Kher', although being the name of speech, is also the name for a Circle, Town, Temple, Shrine and Ark.
