Top 10 - Overrated games

Even though I like most games, but these are very famous games which in my opinion are overrated and not deserving of being in BGG top ranks or of high praises many reviewers give them.

Small World overrated? Madness. Its pure fun and packed with theme. Best in its purest original form, loses a bit in the expansions

I’ve only played 5 of the games on your list, but I totally agree with you. I was sorely disappointed with all 5, and am amazed at how highly they are rated. Keep up the good work!

I completely agree about Wingspan. I do like it. But it would just barely make my top 100 probably.

Nice list: I disagree only with Concordia and Castles of Burgundy. FOr Aeon's End: the way you increase the difficulty you us rules on Nemesis sheets that almost always make the nemesis more powerful, not the players weaker. Are you talking about nightmare mode?

I totally agree with your opinions on Marvel Champions. I too felt that it's a missed opportunity by FFG to craft a truly immersive superhero game experience by not using their own Arkham Horror LCG as a template. There still is no ideal theme-to-board game translation for superheroes, in my opinion at least.

This happens to me with spirit island.i own that game and played nearly 10 times but i dont like it that much.mayve it need an expansion

I tried Uwe’s other Tetromino games but they didn’t feel as good as Patchwork for me because I like the economy of amending buttons to buy tiles but buttons ARE your victory points you’re throwing away. So you need a solid investment strategy to do well. Often toward the end people are counting the number of spaces tiles cover to see if the price in buttons is worth it.

I am commenting as I listen. I totally agree about 7 Wonders Dual as well. When it was about 1 of 5 in my collection I thought it was pretty great. Now I think its just pretty okay. Not as good as the hype imho

Small World strikes me as a terrific game that should be played in its computer version. There is too much upkeep in the BG version. - toby

Wingspan is amazing even without the art. But not sure it’s really as insanely good as the BGG rank suggests!

Hmm. I do agree that Castles of Burgundy is a little overrated. That said, my wife LOVES it and does not watch any of the videos or ranking. So she didn't go into it expecting it to be good.I do think its a very good game, just not quite as good as it is hyped up to be.

Agree with all of these. However since my copies of Patchwork, 7wD, Concordia have solo, I’ll keep them for now. The same could be said for Santa Maria and Viticulture EE, bland games with little strategy just the luck of the draw.
A good metric is the fact none of those games have hit the table in decades.

Everdell is also highly overrated. It’s nice and cute but essentially is just a deck of cards (well, technically 3 identical decks with an incomplete third pack).

I tried to play King of Tokyo...but was so bored that I could not finish it. My wife and I both could not see the appeal.
