Love these lesser known stories of peoples travels pre-industrialization. Always amazes me that they could survive and the people and good will they find along the way.

The fact that a story like this exists, and is mostly unknown is both sad and exciting. Meaning we still have so much to learn.
Hopefully this becomes film pr series one day

This story deserves a 3-hour movie tbh, this man experienced soooo many different battles and cultures, I’m amazed that it doesn’t get talked about more.
Another great video btw!💯

Imagine how many people this happened to, their experiences that have been lost to history.

"I thought my new master would be reasonable, like the first one... Boy, I was wrong!" - Johannes, after few years following Timur.

I didn't know that. Damn. He fought along people that he was sent to fight for like 30 years...And he did managed to come back and write these memoirs too!

This was great. I have to say he wouldn't have gone too far without the mercy of Süleyman Çelebi.

He's a man who is not gullible to other's beliefs, but has an open heart and understanding to listen! God is with Him!

As a Bavarian myself, I am astonished about what my ancestors achieved/ survived, while I watch that Kings of General Video in a comfy chair in my Munich apartment 😂😂

I'm watching this gem from my cozy room in Ingolstadt, Bavaria. The lives of our ancestors were fascinating, and as a Turk, this video is even more intriguing to me.

Extraordinary story. Loved it even more as I never heard about Schiltberger before this video. Would be great to treat the Castilian embassy to Timur achieved by Ruy González de Clavijo and Alfonso Páez de Santa María between 1403-1406. They also traveled deep into Asia and described Bukhara or Samarkand.

His book is available in a 1907 English translation, through Project Gutenberg, if anyone is interested in reading his account.

I say this a lot about historical figures but I really do mean it for this guy.
Johannes Schiltenberger deserves his own big budget movie.

Awesome video! I can't believe I haven't heard about Schiltberger until now. Thanks for bringing his story to my attention.

Gang, one misfortune of Schiltenbergers West Asian journey is that he didn't get to see his fellow Germanic Crimean Goths, but going by the chaotic state the Golden Horde was in it's good enough that he survived

The Christians he met in Kipchak lands were most likely Orkhon Turks like Onguds, Naimans, or Keraites. Kipchaks themselves had been majority muslim for a century by the time
