Ronaldo played for Brazil in 98 matches, scoring 62 goals, and is the second-highest goalscorer for his national team, trailing only Pelé. At age 17, Ronaldo was the youngest member of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 FIFA World Cup. At the 1998 World Cup, he received the Golden Ball for player of the tournament, helping Brazil reach the final where he suffered a convulsive fit hours before the defeat to France. He won a second World Cup in 2002 where he starred in a front three with Ronaldinho and Rivaldo. Ronaldo scored twice in the final, and received the Golden Boot as the tournament's top goalscorer. During the 2006 World Cup, Ronaldo scored his 15th World Cup goal, which was a World Cup record at the time. He also won the Copa América in 1997, where he was player of the tournament, and 1999, where he was top goalscorer.

Watching World Cup 98 as a 9 yr old can remember being in such awe at ronaldo and my late dad saying he was the best he saw since Maradona in 86 ♥️ simpler better times

I remember watching the 98 World Cup as child, in Australia many of the games were on a 2 or 3 AM, so I had to sneak out into the living room and turn on the TV, one time the volume was loud so it woke my parents up.

I had to go back to bed, but I came back out, my dad knew I did, but he let me anyway ha.

I'll never forget the horrible feeling after the final, but seeing Ronaldo throughout was incredible.
Watching this video actually makes me feel sad, seeing him and his potential, to know that soon he would have to suffer and endure so much, and realising that so many years have passed, 23 years, wow, I can't believe it.

I miss those times so much, football felt so special, so many great players, and the leagues we all good, best of all, the leagues really had a different feel and strength to themselves.

And I miss Ronnie, I know he had a fantastic career, watching the 2002 final with my dad is a memory I will forever cherish, but it all seems too brief now, time went by as fast as he ran, feels like a blur.

these days when i look back these old videos and kind of found out that defender those days were so harsh specially on him so many risky tackles and kicks he used to face in single game from the back, sides, front wherever possible. i wish if he had been protected a bit more like C. Ronaldo and Messi these days then we would have enjoyed the much more. even though i will always be greatful to him for making my childhood enjoyable with this beautiful game. thank you once again The Phenomenon!!
